I am a bit of a movie nut. I have all the movie packages on FIOS and have seen some of my favorite films over 30 times. I can usually tell the year a movie came out with a year 99% of the time. I really have an "issue". Anyway - someone asked me recently what were my favorite films over the last ten years. This is what I came up with. I mainly used epinions and Rogert Ebert to think it over. I particularly like great acting, cinematography, story lines and the overall message of the film. Take it for what it's worth. Like to hear other sugestions:

First my favorite five ever. Years might be slightly off.

1. Better Off Dead (1984) Great 80’s quotable lines. Signified my youth. Non stop delivery of jokes.

2. Rocky (1976) Inspiring, great songs, overcoming adversity,

3. Jaws (1977) Scared the **** out of me. Still won’t go in the ocean. Incredible cinematography, timeless…

4. Dumb and Dumber (1995) The best of the stupid humor movies. So many memorable scenes.

5. Life is Beautiful (1999) All about remaining positive for the benefit of others and making the ulimate sacrifice for another

The last 10 years… much tougher. I made a list of my favorites from 99’ – 09’ then I had to put them in order of prefence.

The qualifying films.

Life is Beautiful

Cinderella Man

Changeling

American Beauty

Fight Club

Sixth Sense

Crash

American History X

Million Dollar Baby

The Departed

United 93

Letters from Iwo Jima

Juno

No Country for Old Men

Michael Clayton

Gone Baby Gone

The Bourne Ultimatum

The Dark Knight

Transformers

The top ten and why

10. The Dark Knight – You can not deny the brilliance of Heath Ledger. The film was ok but he was phenomenal.

9. The Departed – Great story. Based in Boston. 4 of the actors could have gotten Oscar nods.

8. Crash – unbelievable well written, directed and the screen play was as good as it gets.

7. United 93 – It took me ten minutes to gather myself in order to leave the theater.

6. Cinderella Man – If it weren’t for Russell’s violent act during the promotion of this film… it would have been an Oscar favorite.

5. American History X – uncomfortable subject matter, well acted, great message, powerful ending

4. Sixth Sense – Truly scary in a way that isn’t portrayed in modern horror films. Boy should have won the Oscar

3. American Beauty – Incredibly written, acted and powerful

2. Fight Club – Not why you’d think. Takes a shot at our culture, our thinking and completely makes you re-evaluate your perspective on many subjects.

1. Life is Beautiful – Beautifully acted and one of the most powerful endings to a film ever.

I didn't think of the years these came out when I made the top ten. I found it interesting that the top five from this list are from 1999 which was an odd / crazy year of my life.

Go ahead tell me what I missed!

Well I don't really have a favorite, I've seen too many to choose but I can categorize it under genre

Drama/action- Pulp Fiction (I caant understand how anyone can't include this in their top)
Action- saving private ryan, black hawk down, escape from la (lol) rambo, jason bourne movies
Drama-KIDS wow you have to watch at least once, miracle at st.anna, crash, american history x, all tarantino, raging bull
Comey- wow also too many but off top of my head fight club, chevy chase vegas vacation, old school, snatch, boogie nights, road trip
Horror- arachnophobia

I'm 100% sure I missed some great movies but that's all I could think of at this hour

I'm just going to go ahead and name my favorite movies of all time.

Alien 2 (first one was absolutely amazing but I just like the atmosphere in the 2nd one better. Also the first one was def more scary)
Terminator 2
Fight Club
Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark
Predator
The Fifth Element
Seven

I'm 21 so pretty much all these movies I saw when I was young.

They are in no particular order. I just know if I saw these movies on TV I'd probably stop what I was watching and watch these.

I'm sure there are a couple I'm leaving out.

Well - this got expanded. I was trying to focus on the last ten years. If you go back to the 80's and 90's (movies most of us grew up seeing) there are a hell of a lot more great films I would have included.

I'm watching Ong-Bak 2. If you like action martial art movies this is a must see. They used high speed film so you don't miss anything.
