Re: Ben's MY05 WRB Type UK STI - The UEL Header is ready! #66

Glad you guys like the pictures. I'm super happy that we finally had the time to shoot them :)

Now take a deep breath and don't get too crazy when you see this:

Don't touch, still hot :D

Re: Ben's MY05 WRB Type UK STI - Drift Training footage & Car dropped off #70

So yesterday I went to the Hockenheimring Driving Center for the Drift Training.
Met my Mom & Dad for Lunch and we went formation flying to the Ring.
Dad got a gift card for the training for Christmas last year and finally found a date to redeem it.
From what I can tell he had tons of fun in his SLK 55 AMG :)
Even mom took the sideways action quite well :D

As for myself, I learned a lot about the car & myself.
The STI with AD08R is sticky like instant glue even in the wet.
2nd Gear power oversteer? Nuh uh. Not without a decent clutchkick.
It was easier for me to force the car sideways on wet asphalt than on the slippery surfaces (they we're supposed to be as slippy as snowy roads but were quite narrow).

Anyway, here is the Video from the 360° Part:

Today I dropped the car off at Lars' place.
If his boss allows it, he'll put the car on the dyno at his workplace to do a before and after run with the new Header being mounted in the after run.
He'll have the car for two weeks to mount the header, test drive it (check for leaks and so on) and fab the lightweight crash boxes and hopefully the Triangle Brace for the rear.
The header itself is a piece of art :)

Haha the Fry gif was almost my exact same reaction when I saw them in person

Lars can't put the car on the dyno.
The resonator in the middle of my exhaust system doesn't go over the ledge to the dyno room.
You have to drive the car up a small ramp to the dyno room. And there is a ledge that is not level with the ground which is to seal the dyno room when the door is closed.
Stupid lowered racecars

Ah, that sucks. What can you try to get it in the dyno area then? Maybe some pieces of wood on the other side of the hump in the floor?

Re: Ben's MY05 WRB Type UK STI - Lars' progress #74

I dunno. If there would have been a simple solution Lars would have done it.
Fully trust him.
I'm not really interested in dyno numbers anyway. It was more for him to see the difference between stock headers and his.

So, the Header is in :)
Lars had to increase the diameter of the holes on the head flanges.
For some weird reason the studs are a millimeter different than on the heads I got from Fred.
We were under the impression that all EJ20 Heads had the exact same Stud patterns.
And the piping closest to the radiator requires some grinding off of plastic from the radiator fan shroud, but nothing major.

Lars also relocated the O2 Sensor to the downpipe which already had a bung to mount it.
Then he welded a second bung next to it so Alex can mount his O2 Sensor for Mapping the car properly.

Re: Ben's MY05 WRB Type UK STI - Lars' progress #74

Good to see progress. I was always a little wary of having sensors that close to the turbine/exhaust.

I will be doing (mostly) the same thing this weekend finally. This pile of parts in my basement will finally start to be put on!

I'm glad it's going forward too :)
Since I've been told there is no real need for an EGT Sensor on my car, there is no sensor in the Headers at all now. So nothing in there that can break and destroy the turbine.

My pile of parts (not shown: TIC Shifter Linkage Bushings, IAT Sensor & Bung, HKS Oilfilter, new Toe screws for the Rear...):

Can't wait for an update of your Journal, Baron :)

edit:
Looking at the power steering cooler, I might upgrade that one too once the Q-Rack is in.

Spec C.
I always say Q-Rack because Quicksteering-Rack but always forget that most of you guys refer to Q-Rack as the Company which made the LHD Short Ratio Racks :)

You will love it.

Just the perfect amount "quicker".

I can't wait to finally see/feel for myself, Idin!
I did test drive a JDM STI but can't really recall how it felt. I just remember it felt quicker but don't have a comparison to the regular Steering Rack.

So the Front Crash Beam now weights ~2.5kg welded. :)
OEM piece is at 10.4kg.
