A quick question for any of you out there who might possibly know the answer: The current WRX comes with standard 16" wheels. The New STi comes with standard 17" wheels. Is the reason for the 17's on the STi because it's required due to the larger Bremo brakes or just to have standard 17's(can you fit the 16's on the STi)? I don't know and I'm hoping someone out there does.

Todd,

Hey, thanks for your opinion. I was looking at some of the close-up pics on the site and also talked to someone in @ Subaru in NJ and he said that a 2000 Japanese version of the STi bairley fit the 17's over the Bremos. Thanks for the information!

And that's just considering the diametral clearance. You have to consider not only the offset of the wheel as well, but just how beefy the wheel is made, otherwise it will hit the caliper.

I know SCC had issues with finding wheels that would fit over the huge calipers on Project Matrix. I forget which wheel ended up working.

The bolt patter is 5 on 100mm. I doubt we'll know what the offset is until the car is released. On the stock WRX, it's around 40mm. I've seen as high as 50mm fit for aftermarket wheels. My ASA's are 45mm, I believe.
Actually, the offset for the stock WRX wheels (U.S. '02/'03) is 55mm. In terms of aftermarket wheels, most 7.5-8" wide wheels are 48mm for the Impreza application. I'm running Prodrive PFF7 (18x8") with a 51mm offset.
