This spinoff of a previous thread intends to find what mods will provide maximum performance for the STi at a premium cost. Please bear in mind that magical cutoff point where you begin to pay exorbitant amounts of money for very little gain. Refrain from titanium, carbon fiber and the like.... Just good old HP for the money 8)

My short list would be:
Downpipe
Air Intake
Exhaust
ECU?
Air Filter?

*I put these "question marks" as I am not that Tech savvy... What could be done to the ECU? what about aftermarket airfilters - any improvement?
please post additions or corrections. BTW... about how much power would this put the STi thus far?

I think we'll see small upgrades, perhaps a new sway bar set....otherwise, I see it being a while before someone makes a complete package that can outperform the stock setup (and that isn't uber expensive!).

I've very very impressed with the stock feel. I've been in many a modified car, whether it be slammed for looks only or tweaked 10-15 times for perfection on the autox course....and this feels as good as I have ever felt.

How about a short throw shifter? Or is the stock one good enough?

You must also read the part about the Vishnu car having R compound tires which makes worlds of difference in every acceleration aspect (accel, track, braking, skidpad).....

Given identical tires, SCC commented that they were pretty much identical.

If you do the math, the stage 2 by shiv would cost approx. the same as a new Sti. (i.e. donor car and stage 2...) Of course this depending upon several variables( markup, financing charges ect.... and in Canada.. . the currncy slam/ model mark up) The fact of the matter is that there's not a heck of alot more you can do with the stage 2 ... (Stage 3 coming), while the Sti is a clean slate with unlimited possiblities yet to be explored... with a solid suspension to start... And initially it has a warrenty :p.

I guess what I'm saying... well ... Oh nevermind... I'm babbling...
After reading over this post I realised I'm saying the same thing thats been said millions of times....

I guess I wanted to validate my exisistance....

man that Vishnu setup was sweet. Still, they shouldn't have been able to use R compounds while everyone else was not.

My boss just bought the Vishnu onboard computer management software. I hope he can get similar results, although he is much more likely to blow his motor!

The stock one is a short throw shifter already. I wouldn't mess with that. If you wanna get an aftermarket shift knob, go for it, but you'd have to get one with that comes with that reverse safety.

I'd start with the intake. If the stock one doesn't change in the next few model years, I'd change that and reflash the ECU. Shouldn't cost much more than $1000 and you'd probably get a 30 hp gain at the wheels.

so now... you have a brand new car with 6 speeds, HID, kick ass tires and rims, and a full warrantly. price is about the same as a stage 2 vishnu car.

met shiv and the gang at vishnu. they are great.

but take a stage 2 car for some warranty work, and the dealer will deny it 8/10 times...

so take your pick.

dont forget about the shopping car handle wing too!!!! ;)

The shifter is nice, but there is *way* too much side to side movement when in gears... Anyone know how to fix that? New bushing/bearing?

Here is my list:

Exhaust (turbo back)
ECU
larger injectors
larger turbo
water injection
ignition (need longer spark duration)

Obviously not *must* because this car is awesome out of the box.

Ahh so the lose shifter isn't just on my car. It sure does have alot of play. I get about 1/2 inch on each side. I noticed that the play is in gear and in neutral... almost like something needs to be tightened.
