Hello brothers in arms.

Interesting times.

If I was king of the world I would just ban all religion.

But then what would all the people who are to stupid to understand science do!

People twist science into a pseudo-religion all the time, and they are just as holier-than-thou as any religious zealot. It's human nature, at least for the ignorant.

I don't see why you'd bump this thread, your STi doesn't care at all I'm sure. ;)

I was bored and found the thread, I thought it was interesting due to the current political position in America and the apparent changes in policy and the views of IWSTI members.

As for science vs religion, are you kidding me, how is science twisted into this pseudo religion you speak of.

It's hard to compare facts with doctrine stolen from old pagan rituals designed to control the people.

Anyways, keep the faith, the easter bunny will soon be coming to give you chocolate eggs from Jebus.

And this is the Australian region thread, its a very topical subject ATM.

Am I going to be banned for free speech on a American website, interest!

Are you kidding ME? I'm a mechanical engineer, so I obviously value science and the truth. But scientists and engineers are subject to confirmation bias like anyone else and frequently use "science" to defend questionable views, they pick and choose what information to absorb and what to reject according to their currently held beliefs and defend their stupid ideas to the bitter end. These people often refuse to experiment in real life because they already know it all. They think the entirety of worldly knowledge was somehow transfused into them during their 4-6 year education. The result is "scientists" or "engineers" with closed minds who think they know everything, but ironically this belief is obviously not true and they cling to science just like a religious zealot clings to their beliefs.

If you've ever had to work with engineers and scientists this should be obvious, engineers are notoriously difficult to work with (as a broad generalization) because of this.

The world is FILLED with ignorance, there's no escaping it, but those that can't recognize their own ignorance make the world a frustrating place to be.

Under the current climate here in the States and the fact that we now have a dictator, I thought it an appropriate response - mate.

Carryon.

Wow, yes the world is full of ignorance, and yes I work with engineers as well as alot of people who will stick to their point of views whether it can be proved or not, that is not science, that is ignorance.

From the Oxford dictionary, feel free to research yourself.

science
NOUN

1[mass noun] The intellectual and practical activity encompassing the systematic study of the structure and behaviour of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment:
‘the world of science and technology’

I also spent my school life from 5 to 15 in a Catholic school and was told multiple times when I questioned things that I shouldnt question those things as it was how it was, sounds like a dictators regime.

Mixing religion with government is not a appropriate way to go, which religion is right, if one is right the others must be wrong then.

Look at all the countries that government and religion are one, generally thats where your genocide and oppression rules supreme.

Basing laws on religion, how is sharia law going for you, hows the the Sunni vs Shia, Catholic vs Prodistant, jews vs everyone.

Religion was a.brilliant plan by the powerful to control the poor masses, its easier to to work someone to death if they think they will get 11ty virgins, pearly gates with singing angels or Valkyries coming down to carry you of on horses to Valhalla where you will smash booze and punch on with your mates.

If you believe in that, good for you, me, I dont, so dont base our laws on your groups chosen belief.

How many people have been killed and are still being killed due to religion.

In my 51 years of being here Ive come to the conclusion that people are basically stupid, will believe in something if it gives them comfort, are scared of people who are different and will turn a blind eye because the wrongs that they see committed are done to make them safe.

Religion and racism are two sides of the same coin.

Just like communism and socialism talk about being about everyone being equal, to qoute some old saying by someone from somewhere, "it sounds good on paper, then people get involved".

As for Trump, the majority of your country voted him in didn't they, he layedout his plans, hell, he hasbeen laying out his plans publicly for the last 30 years, he is doing what the majority of the country wants, not what the noisy minority who is now butt hurt wants.

Anyways, have a nice day and stay safe people.

No sir - the majority did not - see in the States there is something called the "Electoral College" which allowed the not the majority of voters by popular vote to elect the gump.

Actual results were:
Clinton 65,853,625
Gump 62,985,105

Electoral College
Clinton 227
Gump 304

For what it's worth.

Carry on.

Guess you could say I could be one of the butt hurt individuals as I'll go on record saying I never liked him over 40 years of awareness, so don't expect that to change. I didn't think we would ever be raped as bad as the Bush/Cheney era - but in a little over 10 days all indications are we will. Hold on to your hats. ;)

Also, somewhere around half the population didn't vote at all. I bet most of them are regretting that decision right now.

I'd say about 1/3rd of the population supports Trump and I find that extremely disturbing, I'm thankful it's NOT a majority though.

This election did highlight some incredible levels of stupidity though, it's like Idiocracy x 1984 right now. I feel about like Keith, I'd bet a majority of Americans would agree:
