There’s another person posting this problem; how many of us are affected? Has anyone else heard this line?

Here’s an email I received today:

The invoice for your car arrived today. I reviewed it and discovered that it was built with Grey wheels. I have already sent an inquiry to Subaru to see what we must do to get Gold wheels. I will stay in touch.

What gives?

Dealer ordering mistake?
Order fulfillment mistake?
Bait and switch to the most inve$sted buyers?
SOA / dealer hiding a delay on gold wheel car runs?

This blows – I don’t like it when my burger order is filled incorrectly, and I don’t like it when my car order is filled incorrectly, either.

Yup, as mentioned before, it is being revealed that some dealers are NOT ACTUALLY ORDERING cars for their customers. They are just getting whatever SOA sends them...and then they try to match these cars up with those on their waiting list.

An easy check to make....did your dealer contact you and ask what options you wanted on the car? If you don't know what options those might be or if they never asked, you didn't have a car ordered for you.

When I placed my deposit, I told him "no options", so this doesn't help.

I'm suspicious that "took orders" = take deposits and then get whatever, and match up later

My dealer informed me that there ARE no options for this car. Should I be suspect or just attribute it to a mis/uninformed dealer?
There are no FACTORY options, except of course for the car & wheel colors. He should know, however, that there was a short list of port- and dealer-installed options such as the armrest extension, boost gauge, etc. Not to mention a stereo...

Wrong wheels? Try wrong car!! My FORMER dealer pulled the same thing and didn't order me a car. He informed me last week that he had cars coming for the #4 and #5 guys in line and had no idea when my car would be there.....I'm #1 in line.

Luckily, I found a legit dealer in columbus, where I'm moving to, who had 1 allocation left in his first two runs.

For you guys that this is happening to, I wouldn't hesitate to look around for another dealer. Some dealers still have some cars left to presell.

Those are indeed options though. The only way your car would come with those options included is if they ordered the car just for you with them.

Where they were installed doesn't matter.....if you didn't get asked, you got screwed.

UPDATE: Dealer contacted me with one option:

A) take car as is with silver wheels; he will order the next car with gold wheels and swap to mine

downsides:
1) extra trip to dealer 2) car doesn't match sticker description 3) no idea how slow this will actually happen, cuz 'who cares' they got their sale 4) possible wheel damage if they try to my (now used) tires to the gold wheels

upsides
1) get STi now and not later 2) get trade at agreed value before they hassle me with another months wear and tear on value of car 3) avoid additional car payment on current car

I proposed a second option: order me a new car. "When will it get here?" "A few weeks". My trade value has been secured, so I might take this option if they pay my "extra" car payment (which I know is mostly paying down the principal anyway).

downsides / upsides - converse of above - get "correct" STi weeks later than I should have

Have I missed anything? What would you guys do?

Seriously need some help here

Ideally, you could take the car now, and have the dealer order the next car the way you want it (the whole car, not just the wheels), and swap when they get it. Then, they could sell me the used STi for, say, $10G off MSRP (under, not over).

Ok, it's not likely they'll go for it, but it coudn't hurt to ask...

I'm in exactly the same situation as you. "My" car came in today and the Sales Manager called me (my sales guy wasn't there yet).

He insisted that "I have to come look at the car" I told him that if I was going to come look at the car, what was he going to do to try to get me gold wheels. He said nothing. When asked, he said he was not going to:

- Call his regional rep
- Call SOA
- Call another dealer
- Agree in writing, without conditions on a wheel swap with the next car he gets in with Gold rims

I told him that I will indeed come in to see the car. While I am there I am getting my deposit back so I can order the car I want from another dealer who hasn't made the incredibly stupid mistake of treating me like this one has.

I really can't figure it out. I guess this dealer (Falconi Subaru) is so sucessful that they can just blow off customers.

If your in SW PA or nearbouts' and are looking for White / Silver they got one waiting for you, cause it sure as hell isn't mine.

Mine will be coming in August after I order it early next week.

P.S. If your interested you must ACT QUICKLY. My salesman said they are going to load it up with every option they can find including a factory radio.

NOTE: The sales manager is named Nestor Kelly. Please avoid this person at all costs. He combines incompetence, indifference, and arrogance in way that is awe-inspiring.

i was at Rafferty Subaru recently and they said you can only buy the STi "Sight Unseen." Meaning pretty much, you cant touch or see the car without a $10,000. down payment. The guy acted as if i dont know cars at all. I may be 17, and a girl, but give me a break, ya no? The other dealer let me sit in the STi model, but wouldn't let me drive it ( no gas.) but i got 1000000 times better respect then the other dealer.. arg.
