just put a deposit with don beyer in alexandria va. i asked about options and, naturally, they didn't know as yet. anyone have rumors about options? i can't imagine there'd be any performance options.

so anyone know about color? i've heard blue, white, and black. i was hoping for a racing yellow. (NOT the icky yellow they have on the current wrx. more like the yellow on the lancer evo)

sunroof? (hopefully not standard.)

radio? the dealer said it would definately come with a radio, but a post on another topic on the forum indicated that it could be ordered without a radio.

leather? (not personally interested.)

others?

As far as I have heard, options for the STi are going to be pretty much limited to the dealer-installed stereo (hopefully the same unit as the WRX). It looks like the car comes fully loaded, but I have not heard anything about any "delete options". Probably the only thing that Subaru will offer would be a few of the body kits available through the Japanese STi site (similar to the ground effects kit available for the WRX).

As far as the sunroof and leather goes... I doubt Subaru would give this race-ready car a sunroof because not only would it undermine the structural rigidity of the car, it would also add uneeded weight to the car in the form of extra structural members and in the sunroof mechanism itself - don't forget Subaru is going as far as using lightweight rear glass to drop the weight of the car, why would they counteract this with a heavy sunroof? Besides, a sunroof would drop the headlines by a few inches, giving those of us over 6 ft a hard time with a helmet on the track.

I also doubt leather would be offered in the STi because it would just drive the price up further, and also make for a more slippery-surface on our asses - bad news for the track no matter how they are bolstered. It looks like the Ecsaine fabric on the show car would be a good high-friction surface that would also be durable. Don't forget this is a race-ready car - you would have a tough time finding a car that is more close to a rally car than the STi, so options are pointed towards the track, not for looks (although I think the A/C is an unusaul standard feature on a car like this, but it will come in handy when commuting).

excellent. i certainly wasn't wanting a sunroof or leather for all the right reasons you mentioned. i did not know about body kits possibilities though. i wonder if prodrive will have a kit? on previous generation sti's, i've liked the prodrive stuff better. <shrug>

I'll be looking to see if they will offer the STi front lip that can be found offered in Japan. Very sharp looking....along with the yellow/blue tinted fog lights.

Other than that......with what appears to be a fully loaded car to begin with, I'm not going to complain about a lack of sunroof, although they are offering them on the standard WRX now. It would be possible to have done, maybe by the dealer, but I wouldn't trust the monkeys at a dealership with a hacksaw.

Here is the Prodrive USA launch press release. No mention of the Sti but I am sure they will do something.

"Prodrive targets US performance market
Prodrive has entered the US aftermarket by setting up a new business, Prodrive USA, to capitalise on the huge demand for performance accessories.

Prodrive USA is based in Irvine, California in the heart of the performance car industry and is a partnership with US automotive design studio, Aria. Already the business has made its market approach clear with the launch of its first concept, the Prodrive CR-1 (Canyon Racer).

Based on an Acura RSX sports coupe, this aftermarket performance package includes a new aero pack, modified suspension, new brakes, OZ wheel and tyre package, as well as racing seats and interior trim.

“We are taking a different strategy to the market from everyone else in the US,” said Roland Cherry, director of product technology at Prodrive. “Ours is the same holistic approach we take in Europe, where we develop a package of components specifically for a single model which work together with the primary aim of improving performance while enhancing the styling.”

Prodrive USA expects the CR-1 package to be available in the spring of 2003. Should the Acura NSX be launched in Europe, Prodrive will consider selling the package in the UK.

Prodrive is also supplying a performance pack for the Subaru Impreza WRX based closely on that available in the UK and Europe, but modified to meet US legislation. Since its launch in 2001, the Subaru Impreza WRX has emulated its popularity in the UK and become a favourite with drivers looking for a compact performance car. "

Yes they run a 550 GTO Maranello. Just for the record they also run a Volvo in the British Touring Car Championship. In the past they have run BMW's, Alfa Romeos, Fords and Hondas. This is an organization with amazing engineering depth.

i hope they at least provide a foglight kit for the sti. someone just posted this link:

http://accessory.subaru.co.jp/impreza/gallery/index.html#main

perhaps that just the regular sti from dam with fogs installed and a chin spoiler. whatever the case, i hope its made available.
I'm with you there. I'll be looking to snag both those fogs and the front lip. Very cool indeed.

As for the wing....nope, I want that baby. It's all STi/WRC...can't do without that on an STi.

Good news:

I talked to a Prodrive rep while I was at the Peterson Museum. They have recently opened an office in Irvine CA. I asked about the PPP for the North Am. (NA) version of the STi. He said, 'we are working on it, we do not have the ECU yet'.

Their web site is not up yet. They are working on that too.
