Re: LeftBehind126 - Anthony's 2004 WRB STi - Finally?

Well - two years late but it is time!! I pulled my member journal from a local club - followed by what's going on as of right now.

Hey all - My name is Anthony - This is the first time I've ever made any member journal type thread so bear with me. I don't remember exact dates, so I will summarize up to today -

My goal with the car is to eventually build the engine and get to 400whp. No less, but more would be fine. I want to track it, and just have fun! I also seemed to notice there aren't many STi's out there with AgTags - so if you're in Maryland and see one with them - wave because its most likely me!

I got my WRB STi back in May '08. I had been searching for a while, and after constantly getting ripped on by Stealerships, I finally found her. I knew I wanted a 2004. Which also delayed the process some.

After the paperwork and what not - I left for Ocean City for a week. Seeing a few WRX/STi's there, I was getting anxious and excited. I arrived back from Ocean City and pulled in my driveway to see the car there for the first time.

That was one of the most exciting days in my life so far. Lame, I know. :D The only thing I wasn't too happy about, and wasn't since I saw her, were the flames. Ew. They would be removed soon enough. I loved the car!

I went around to a few shops, but finally settled on Doctor Detail to do the work on my car. They made me feel very comfortable leaving my car and letting them work on it. For 150$ they offered to remove the flames and completely detail the car, inside and out. They even demo'd a small part of the car to see what it would look like before I pulled the trigger.

Removing Decals - 56k Beware

Before -

After -

After that I got my first Accessport. It was the V1. Shortly after buying it, I went to switch maps, and fried the damn thing. Shipped it off to Cobb for repair. After thinking about it for a little bit, I finally bought the V2 and am much happier with it.

A few months later - I decided to finally get tint. Again - I went to Doctor Detail. Again - outstanding work! I will not go anywhere else for detailing/tinting work and recommend them to anyone searching for a place.

I have very sensitive eyes. My eye doctor was the one to actually recommend I get tint. He wrote me a note stating I needed tint below the legal percentage. With that note, and a note from MVA - I headed to DD and got my tint. 20%.

Good stuff!!

That pretty much brings us up to today! 6/5/09.

Current Mod List -
Apexi GT Spec CBE
Invidia v2 Catless DP
Accessport OTS Stage 2 Map
RallyArmor Mud Flaps
ProDrive Springs

Random Pics -

Re: LeftBehind126 - Anthony's 2004 WRB STi - Finally?

So I have had plans for more power, but always put it off because Stage II was fine for me, and I wanted to wait until my motor went so I could start fresh.

May 31st - Engine finally went. Or at least I think so. I lost Oil Pressure and was getting a loud clicking. I know it won't be good. It's currently on a trailer waiting to go to a shop for a rebuild - followed by some parts. That's why I'm just now starting this.

While I did want 400whp - I am torn between two turbos. I am almost positive I'm going with the new Blouch Dom 3- but in the back of my mind, I'm also considering the 20G. I know 20G wouldn't net me 400whp, but that'd be fine.

Mod list is as follows - (hopefully)
-APS 525 FMIC
-Walbro 255lph
-850cc Injectors (not sure brand)
-APS 70mm CAI
-Tial 38mm EWG
-Blouch Dominator 3 or 20G

I'll keep updating this as time goes on with pictures, build info, and just random ****. I should be dropping it at the shop sometime soon. It's going to be weird not having the car outside. This journal might be slow to start, but I'm going to try to get it going.

Thanks for checkin' it out!

Re: LeftBehind126 - Anthony's 2004 WRB STi - Finally?

I dropped her off tonight at the shop. I feel that the car is in great hands, and I'm very excited for the future of it! It's at GT Performance here in Edgewood, MD. Artie, who used to work at Agile Auto, is the one that will be taking care of it.

I should also have the diagnosis of the engine failure/Oil Pressure drop as well.

Re: LeftBehind126 - Anthony's 2004 WRB STi - Finally?

Well guys - we took apart the engine. Turns out oil pick up tube was fine. (Some of you knew that, but I just wanted to throw it out there.) Although it was fine - I'm still planning on switching to the KillerB tube when the engine is put back together.

Diagnosis - Cylinder 1 Rod Failure + Cylinder 4 Cracked Ringland.

Since I turned my car off immediately it seems I saved the heads as there isn't any damage. There was quite a bit of rod shavings in the oil and pan. Time for the rebuild!!

Cosworth Bearings are out of stock. Tried ACL as well. Looks like I'm waiting two weeks. =( Backorder. Sucks that they are the ONLY part I'm waiting on. I have everything else ready to go.

Waiting on the Coated Grimmspeed Uppipe, Tial EWG and Perrin Inlet Tube. Engine is done. Should be alive next week!

P.S. - If anyone is shopping around online, I strongly urge you to check out Import Image Racing. I've pestered Josh a few times asking questions and he has been very quick and nice about answering. He got my order out the same day as well. His customer service has been outstanding!

Oh snap. It's game on....
I'm so excited. Hopefully it'll be done today. I drove the jeep to work, but it'll end up staying here because I'm definitely leaving with the Subaru.

Re: LeftBehind126 - Anthony's 2004 WRB STi - Finally?

It's the same block, just machined. Aftermarket crankshaft, Mahle Race Pistons, Eagle Rods, ACL Bearings. Theres a list, but those are the main parts really. Once I get the car back, I plan on putting up a list of what was done.

I'm pretty excited to get it back, and for the upcoming weeks. Break in, tune, new turbo -will be a good July. Haha.

7/2 - They're putting it back in as I type. I walked over and saw halfway done. I am more than excited to finally get her back.

Re: LeftBehind126 - Anthony's 2004 WRB STi - Breaking in New Engine!

So I'm almost at 500 miles so far. I want to make the next 500 go by fast, but I need to space it out until my protune. =(

Nice! How's the motor running so far?
So far its good. No boost, under 4k. I thought it was somewhat difficult at first but now it's not bad and seems somewhat normal.

I take it back to GTP tomorrow to have Artie do the first oil change, and inspect it to make sure everything is going good.

Re: LeftBehind126 - Anthony's 2004 WRB STi - Breaking in New Engine!

So for anyone that's interested - this is what the build consisted of so far (main parts) -

Now
Overhaul Long Block
Cylinder Head Surfacing
Rebored/Hone Cylinder Block
Replaced All Pulleys
New OEM Oil Cooler
Eagle Rods
HS Crankshaft
Kevlar Timing Belt
Mahle Hardened Race Pistons
Cosworth Rod Bearings
ACL Main Bearings
KillerBee Oil Pick Up
ARP Head Stud Set
NGK Spark Plugs
Perrin Inlet Tube
Grimmspeed Cermaic Coated Uppipe
Tial 38mm EWG

Waiting To Go On
APS 70mm CAI
TGV Deletes (maybe)
Grimmspeed Boost Solenoid
Walbro 255lph Pump

Need To Get

APS 525 FMIC
Electronic Boost Controller

Things have slowed some, as I'm spending money getting my daily back up and running. Blown head gaskets suck.

If anyone can recommend a good EBC that'd be appreciated.

Sup man, how the block holding up? As for the EBC, I would go with the Turbosmart or Apexi.

I would love to be able to put in a new engine. I saw a 2.7 long block I want, now I just have to sell a few body parts to afford it. It's a shame you BASC guys are so far north of me, I would love to join.

It seems to be doing good! I think for EBC I decided on the Turbosmart eBoost 2. Seems to have a lot to offer! Which do you have?

My plans have been put to a halt because of medical bills from my accident last year. The hospitals/physical therapy do not want to wait any longer for me to get my settlement and pay them even though the entire situation isn't my fault. It's a ****ty phone call - "Hello Anthony, you owe Bayview Medical XXXX.XX dollars. Would you like to take care of that tonight?"

Regardless - the build should be back on track beginning of the year.

How is your build going?
