Hey all,

I was wondering if the STi, when it comes out will have an antenna that you have to pull out like on my wife's WRX Sportwagon or will it be internal? Like in the glass of the front or rear windshield? And because their is so much contention on the rear wing I was wondering if Bullet or one of the others that already own the Euro spec STi with the Prodrive wing would take a picture they could post of the view through their rear view mirror. That way we would know if the hight of the wing would pose a problem for anybody. Because I know that there are others out there that don't want the wing obstructing their vision. Just curious

I also remember reading somewhere the pull-out antenna wouldn't be installed on the new STi.

As for a picture, if you look close at the official pics from the front/left quarter panel, it gives a little of an idea of how huge that wing looks thru the rear window.

Won't an antenna in the window mess with a radar detector? I bet the wing will not pose any visibility problems because it is so high. Manufacturers usually put such a high wing on so they don't obstruct vision out the back window. I am sure there is a law or standard they need to follow so they don't get sued.

I was just wondering about the wing. I currently own a 2000 Eclipse GT and the small wing on the back is great, because it is the same hight as most headlights when driving at night so it blocked most of the lights in the rear view mirror.

18" wheels

That's one of the things that really bothers me is that the wing is the same height of the rear view mirror. It's rather ridiculous. If they only made it a little bit higher...as high as the roof, it would still maintain the gaudiness and yet at the same time it wouldn't obstruct your view. As it is, look out the mirror and you'd just see this horizontal bar there. I know...just remove the rear view mirror. Now you don't have that problem. Or you could make a cut out in the middle of the rear wing...
:-?

As for the antenna, I read somewhere in this forum I believe that the STi will not have a pull out antenna...and the pictures we've been seeing, even the bug-eyed STi's that are in Japan now confirm this. Instead, the STi will have an integrated antenna NOT in the rear view window, but rather in the rear side window on the driver's side (since drivers never look out that window) much like the US Outbacks have right now. Definitely a good thing, as it won't interfere with my snowboard rack that I intend to install on it

Honestly I don't think the wing will be an issue at all. Unless you are looking at something WAAAY behind you, most of the traffic or items of concern should be under the wing.

The little wing on the back of my Celica gets in the way more than that thing will, IMO.

Damn..that is a beautiful pic!!!

Well, I don't think the wing will pose an issue at all. Its high, but higher than a Type-R wing and that usually cut right into your field of view. I'm not worried, b/c I can always take the thing off, buy a new one of my choice, and sell the thing for good money. Like any sticker on it, the gold wheels or even the wing these are all minor details...

PS..my wife hates the wing...hehehe

I think the angle of that pic is bad for this example. Through the rearview mirror it might not be that bad. One thing though, you guys might be taking double looks when you look back to switch lanes. You will take a quick glance to switch and you will not be thinking of the wing, seeing something will cause you to look again. I had this problem in my Supra when I first got my old one. You'll get used to it though.

Yeah, I'll probably take the wing off (unless it's optional equipment) and install the WRX one. Alfredob1, where'd you get that picture? If we had a picture of the rear view mirror that would be perfect

Damn! That is nice. Everytime I see a pic of a blue STi it makes me reconsider my choice of a white one. :( I don't think the wing will be that bad as far as visibility out the back window. If it was a big problem we would have probably heard about it already in some of the reviews. You know after looking at that pic I still think the car has a unique look. People that bitched about changing the round headlights said it is not unique anymore... I don't know it still has a look all its own. One other thing I noticed... the tread pattern on the tires. Looks kind of aggressive. Are those the 930s? Looks like I will have to get snow tires for sure.

I still want one... bad.

Is it June yet?

Yeah, I love it. Both the old and the new design is super unique! I love it.

I think those tires are a newly designed pattern..I read that somewhere.

Ahh..don't reconsider your choice for white..I think it is getting to become more and more white or blue for me. I have been reconsidering the black from what you said..
