I'm not sure if anyone has posted this article yet, but Prodrive has a performance pack out for the new STI which kicks it over to 300bhp. It's a couble of Gs more, but may be worth while. The article can be found at BBC Top Gear's site, or the link below.

I wonder if this pack would be compatible with the STI that's coming here, I'd love to get my hands on one, and its made by Prodrive, so you know its well tested. :D

300 hp for another $3200 US or $5000 CAN on top of the estimated $32000 US or $50000 CAN pricetag of the car itself. Man. Worth it, yes. Afford it, no. Want it, loan.

I am still trusting my zone rep about the mysteries 2.5L turbo prototype and its hopeful SURPRISE intoduction in the face of the EVO VIII. Fantasy or reality, who knows.

Problems believing.

Yumm, the PPP and I know where to get it, too. ;) However, if the 2.5L rumor is true you may not need it, or may not need that much of a boost.

If this 2.5L supposedly produces "JDM" power, then you are already OVER 300HP. I don't care what anyone says, the JDM STi has more than 276HP. That is a gentleman's agreement and it's broken daily. :)

There are dyno charts (I will try to dig one up) that shows that a JDM STi stock really produces around 310HP.

Wing and scoop?

I agree with JJ on the underestimated HP of the Japanese spec STi, but I have heard that it runs closer to 320 hp. If that is true, then what does the S202 really put out?

they are underrated because of limit that japan has for its cars. I believe the hp cannot exceed something around 280 so all the companies underrate their vehicles. Hence, the STI, skyline, evo etc. having more power then published.

The S202 is published at 320 ps = about 316 hp. And it supposedly has various upgrades and mods over the JDM STi and Spec C. If the JDM STi is already up at that level, then S202 owners are getting screwed. If they're publishing more than 280 ps, it would seem that it's the real output. Being already over the "agreement", there would be no point in advertising 320 and still be underrated.

Anyway, to me the output of the S202 would suggest that the normal STi really is at 280 ps.

$3200 US is ridiculously overpriced for a 300 hp package. Regular USDM WRXs are hitting 300 for nearly a grand less than that (just look at Vishnu's site). And I would presume you would need even less to get there with the STi, given its existing hardware.

Yup. I bet Vishnu needs a stage 0 equivalent with the STi and 300hp will be right there. Custom tune will make it smooth as butter :)

I would gladly pay the 3200, wrap it up into financing, and then you also get the full factory warranty. Plus, it's Prodrive, so that means it's good stuff. :) Seriously, though, it is complete and built to exacting specs. No worries, just performance.

Plus, who says that it will be 3200US anyway? If Vishnu is really that cheap, (you can get 40+HP for 1,000), then do you really think Prodrive will charge $3200? I bet not. Plus, the dollar is kinda weak right now against the pound, so that leads to inflated conversions. I would bet that it would be $2500 at the very most.

Hi there, I'm new here. Bought a Japan spec STi (2001) about 2 months ago. Listen guys, I drove the car stock for all this time and it is a beast. There is no comparison between the STi and any Evo (X). I owned an Evo 4 & 5 before and drove many Evo VII's. The STi is a superior handling car. Superior feel. All of this crap about the EVO's being faster is crap guys. I've got many friends with Evo's of each generation. I beat 2 Evo VII's one after the next and one of them had turbo, ECU, exhaust etc. Honestly, that car was theoretically supposed to be quicker. We ran again and he got beat again. I think it's a myth. THE EVO'S AREN'T FASTER. I don't think they were EVER faster. Today I installed a HKS downpipe and a beautiful Blitz 3" (internal diameter) exhaust. The car is now in the 12 second bracket. I've yet to see any Evo in that bracket. Farless a daily driver. I live in Trinidad and we've got from the Evo 1 to the seven. They have been around and experimented on much much longer than the STi's. I can tell you. I was one of the hardcore Evo lovers. A georgeous 12 second daily driver. Tremendously graceful when calm, but deadly when aroused...and all of that happens in less than a second. That's the Subaru Impreza WRX STi.

Let's get Kevin to talk about the STi in a commercial...ala Jeff Goldblum describing the first iMac lmao

Anyway, welcome Kevin and that's great to hear! But I hope you did break in the car or at least it was broken in when you got it...

Yes I did buy the car used. It was in fantastic condition and had 11000kms on the odometer. I assume that the car was broken in properly judging from the condition of the vehicle. I'm not too sure about the US spec STi though. I hope you guys get the 280hp version. Anyone familiar with Goode Subaru or any professional STi shop? I need to purchase another exhaust. This one is too noisy.

whoa! Now that's a mod I appreciate! I've never heard anyone making their car "less noisy"...esp since I get woken up half the time by some guy in a CRX with a fart can exhaust

Considering that with modern exhaust technology, loud doesn't necessarily mean more power than quiet, I agree completely. The only reason to have an obnoxious exhaust is simply to have an obnoxious exhaust. If you go to Vishnu's site, you will notice that their exhaust upgrades come in a "loud" or "quiet" version, but they say right up front that there are no performance differences between the two. Makes the choice pretty clear for me, but I still have to wonder what the guys and gals with the badger-stuck-in-the-tin-can exhaust systems are trying to prove.
