On July 17, 2015 I purchased a 2016 DGM STI. I had been in the Subaru family before with a 2004 platinum silver metallic WRX. I loved that car, and owned it for over four years. I don't really even remember exactly why, but for some reason I traded it in. One of the dumbest things I can remember ever doing.

Edited: this Subaru has come a long way in a short 6 months of ownership and only 3k miles. Went stage 3 at 2600 miles and am enjoying this vehicle a lot. I am not nearly as skilled of a mechanic as others on this site, but I am trying to do as much as possible on my own.

At 4K Miles I purchased the Cobb flex fuel kit and killer b header. Had them installed and pro tuned at Turn in Concepts. At about 6k miles I had it retuned by BrenTuning and went ahead and added a Process West TMIC.

Then at 8500 miles I upgraded the factory VF48 to the Cobb 20g turbo. Haven't ran it on a dyno, but if I can find one near me, i'd like to.

This thread will show some of the items I have already done, and hopefully things I will do. I hope you all enjoy the car and pictures.

How the the car sits in August 2016:

Re: My 2016 DGM STI

I did this a few weeks ago, but I just got around to uploading the photos. The car is dirty, but I wanted to show the difference the 25mm spacers made. I was worried the front would rub, but I haven't had any issues so far.

Cobb Stage 3 and Issues

I ordered the Cobb Stage 3 kit right after Thanksgiving. Without going into too much detail, the whole process was very stressful. Cobb sent my packages, UPS lost a package, UPS found the package, Cobb had not put random pieces into the package, etc. After a few days, I went ahead with the installation (which was also quite stressful).

Laying out some of the pieces:

I installed everything alone or with the help of my dad. Just being honest, but installation was a PITA! More than a few times I found myself stopping in the middle of removing vital pieces of the motor and asking myself, "Why am I doing this to a brand new car?" The obvious answer is I am a moron who does not value money. Moving on....

The whole process took a lot longer than I originally thought it would (not the first time nor last time I will say this). Fuel injectors took about 6 hours (first time ever doing it so others may be a lot quicker). Fuel pump took about 90 minutes. Fuel Pressure Regulator took about 2 hours.

Downpipes took way longer than it should have. I had trouble breaking the bolt on top of the turbo closest to the passenger side. The turbo sits back a little behind the windshield/hood line up top, so I was nervous to use various extensions, flex heads, etc. I psyched myself out because I was worried about rounding the bolt. After trying for about an hour, I decided to spray it with WD-40 and give it a half hour. Came back out after 15 minutes (I am impatient), and found I could unscrew it with my fingers. Another 15 minutes and I had the new Cobb unit on.

So right now I am running Cobb Stage 3 OTS 93 map. I don't have a catback on it since that was on backorder, but I don't care. The car sounds a lot meaner with the downpipes anyway, and I don't think our exhaust system is too bad from the factory.

The car feels a lot stronger now, and I am really enjoying it. This is how the car should have came from the factory in my opinion. I took a lot of pictures during the installation, but they were mostly for me to remember where wires went and how things were tucked away. I don't think they are probably enjoyable to look at so I left them off the post.

p.s.
I did install the Perrin pitch stop mount, but not the lava blanket form the photo.

soooo, u live with pops?
I'm jelly. I wanted stage 3, but I truly just kinda am over the car scene & tinnitus in my right ear isn't getting any better.

But I still love to drive.

Enjoy the STi!

Re: My 2016 DGM STI

Thanks, guys.

I don't live with my dad. I am married with children. Anytime I work on cars I try to get my dad involved because he loves them. We did everything together on the 2004 WRX so I couldn't think of a better person to have help out on the 2016. Even though he loves cars, I don't think he is a fan of the ej motor. I had to hear about how much easier engines were to work on when you could get in the engine bay with the motor to swap out spark plugs, etc. LOL.

Valentine V1 and Shift Knob

After work I decided to clean up my wire to the AccessPort and also install the Valentine V1 Radar I got for Christmas. The install was very simple. I did it under the rear view mirror and wired it into the harness on the back of the mirror.

Not a great picture since it is dark but this is what it looks like from the backseat.

I also used a Dremel to create a little area for the AccessPort wire to pass through from the OBD-II port up through the fuse area and out the side towards the driver side mirror.

If anyone is curious about the WC Lathewerks Stainless Steel ball in the picture, here is a comparison of it to the factory knob. It is a little shorter so it does shorten the throws, and it is about a pound in weight. I have really enjoyed it so far.

I'll post some more pictures of the AccessPort wire tomorrow.

Headlight Overlays and JDM Console Hood

Got a few things this week from UPS. Received my Cobb exhaust this morning. Hopefully I can get that on the car this week.

I also received a pretty cheap mod. Smoked overlay stickers for the amber reflectors in the headlight:

On my 2004 WRX, I baked the headlights and then removed the amber out. I wasn't about to do it to a 2016 STI so I found these on Subispeed and picked them up. Not the best pictures, but I wanted to show what they look like. I didn't like the fitment as well as I liked the taillight overlays, but for $14 or whatever they were, they do the job!

I also installed the JDM Console hood into the car. Not the best picture, but it will do:

Cobb TBE Finally Complete

I finally got the Cobb CBE delivered last week so I put it on over the weekend. I was worried it would be too loud (my 2004 was way too loud). I think it sounds great and looks just as good. I am actually quite surprised by how much quicker it made me feel the car was. I know the gains are minimal, but I guess just hearing the sound along with the turbo kicking in makes it "feel" quicker.

I started to install an AFR gauge, but backed out after it took too long. While I had a lot of the trim pieces out, I decided to try plastidip. I really like the S207 red interior trim pieces on the Japanese model, so I decided to try it out on mine. I figured worse case was I'd just remove it if I didn't like it or it didn't hold up well for any reason.

Re: My 2016 DGM STI

Can you post a video/pictures of what the reverse and turn signals look like with all red vinyl overlays... Also where did you purchase them from ? I've been wanting to do all red for awhile but I thought is was illegal to not have any white displaying from your taillights. One last note your not having any issues at all with the Stock wheel with 25mm Perrin Spacers ? Congrats with your build WhatWarranty?

Unless there is something I am missing, not having clear is not illegal. But could vary from state to state. There is also a cool mod on Subispeed that is a red inlay, that leaves a little white showing, it's pretty cool.

Re: My 2016 DGM STI

Cflo23: I honestly never thought of the legality of the taillights until you brought it up. Uccracing is probably correct about it varying state to state, but in Kentucky I should technically have more white on my reverse lights when they are powered on. The red inlay Uccracing mentioned from Subispeed (same site I got my all red ones from) would leave white around the edges and looks pretty cool. That would probably keep you legal. In Kentucky, we aren't terribly strict about car rules but if anyone ever hassles me, I am sure I can get away with it by just pulling them back off.

I can throw a video on here when I get off work tonight. I haven't seen them on, but I would guess it will be a light red/pink color on the reverse lights. If safety is a concern, I would suggest not doing the red ones only because they do not illuminate the ground behind the vehicle as well as nothing on them will. At least they look bad ass, though! LOL.

Overlay video/little bit of that exhaust, too!

I'm late on getting this up here for you but here's a video of the reverse lights on. I had a tough time getting good lighting or quality of picture. Sorry for that. It's a slight pink tone, and I didn't do the turn signal in the video. The turn signal is more of a bright red so it's pretty noticeable.

Video shows the overlays as well as that turbo back exhaust  LOL.

Let me know if you have trouble viewing the video.

Re: My 2016 DGM STI

If there is ever a Lexington/Louisville meetup I would be more than willing to make the drive from Owensboro for a long weekend. We try to do a Keeneland trip once a year and whenever UGA plays UK we go to the football games.

Also I plan to go out to Tail of the Dragon this year for the Boxer Takeover.

Re: My 2016 DGM STI

I'd love to do a meetup. I'm sure there is something around here but I missed the northern Kentucky one back in the fall. I get jealous of all the meet ups I see from postings and YouTube.
