2014 STI Delima

I am new to this forum and hope to own a Subaru. I am married dad with kids in high school. I have placed an order for a Subaru STI Base model 5 door model. I am not sure whether my decision to buy a STI and Wagon is a correct decision. I liked the body style and also feel it is an ordinary looking 'Not look at me' kind of spoiler as in sedan.

Just curious whether anyone who is also at my stage can say 'it is not a bad car' and I have made a right decision'.

Anyone please, share your thoughts....

Arthur.

It is an amazing car. This coming from someone who never like a sti.
You'll love it. And I'm sure you'll get some props from your kids' high school friends as well. Much more practical that the sedan IMO.
I, too, am a married Dad with kid. Took receipt of my 5 door STI in ... May?
When it becomes with kid(s), they'll still fit :)
Still loving driving to the freaking bus parking lot every work day.
On weekends, wife presumes we'll all just go in my car rather than her SUV because I love driving it so much. Congratz! :)
And my kid and nephew both think its the most awesome car in the world to ride in :)

If you like to drive, shift gears, and take back roads instead of the freeway - then you made the right decision.

Wait till it rains or snows and you will be amazed!

Awesome. Guys I really appreciate your thoughts on it. I cannot wait to get my STI. I will keep you guys with my experience(s) at least once.

Thank you All.
post pictures when you get it for sure
I'm married with one two year old boy. This is my second STI; I sold the first one because I needed a truck for construction but have since changed professions so got rid of the truck for a new STI. After a year without the STI I was starting to have really bad withdraws:lol: and needed a fix so the truck had to go. I will say that I find all other vehicles just an absolutely boring driving experience. Even if I had the money to buy a 100k sportscar I'd still choose the STI(and I guess I'd spend the other 60k on mods :D). In all seriousness, you made the right decision, I think. It would be easier to confirm your decision if you tell us what your expectations are as we'll as the things you absolutely don't want in a car. For instance, if you're looking for a comfortable luxury car, get a G35 or something instead. You really aren't giving us much to work with. Also, I absolutely love the function of the hatch over sedan. I couldn't fit my sons stroller in the sedan but can in the hatch. Give us more info about you...what made you buy the STI, list some things out and we'll tell you if the STI is going to fill each need. Also list things you don't want in a car.

I wasnt going to input but. Im married with 19month old twin girls. They love the car, know its Daddy's car. I fit two car seats in here, two strollers in the trunk and all the diaper bags and supplies we need no problem. Im 6'3" too so my seat is all the way back.

Plenty of room for me and its a blast to drive, plus its our shop car so its getting the love and care plus the mods every day.

Youll love it an enjoy it and you dont even need that much room since your kids are older.
I did the same thing - my kids are 5 & 7. No regrets. I really enjoy driving it and it is a great jack of all trades car. It simplified my life as well as I ditched a late-model truck and 911 (or at least I am trying to sell the 911 but the market is a bit illiquid in CO at this time of year). I enjoy driving the STI more than the 911 (purchase bias may apply but it is fun, has utility and less BS goes along with it).
I see so many older gentlemen driving STi's and EVO's that it boggles my mind - and each time they look to be enjoying themselves. When I say older I mean graying in the facial and hair - if they can get a slapstick grin ear to ear I am sure you will be in the same boat.

Enjoy!
Only you can decide if the 5 door is what you like. Me personally I fell in love with the Sedan STI's (big obnoxious wing and all) when they first came over. Also, my other car is a 1995 Honda Civic Si hatchback... and in my mind, from the rear, I can mistake an STI hatchback for a Civic hatchback. So for me at least, it was give me that Sedan with the obnoxious wing, or give me death!

But again it's a personal preference thing. You'll enjoy your new car that's for sure!
5-door is the way to go. Throw a roof rack on there and the whole family can go skiing, camping, or hunting.

One day you may come home to find the STI missing... since one of your kids will definitely borrow it to impress a date or something.

JD and Others,

You guys make me feel good about my decision. I should be fine in terms of comfort, but the thrilling of driving is all I am looking for. I have a 535i and an Xterra offroad. I love driving. Instead of flying I choose to drive my xterra for some serious distance every week. I prefer manual shift. (owned a manual Volvo in the past and loved it)

The real concern: whether it is right to buy so close to the model change? (Heck if I like the car so much, I will trade in for the next best, if it is going to the better than the current STI).

JD , I don't know whether it is enough info (I don't have anything besides this for now and a whole lot of anticipation...). But will surely post my first SUBARU STI.....

Thanks,
Arthur.

I have a 535i and we can use it for all the family, church activities and my wife drives it (like most homes wife drives nice car)

My Xterra offroad will go to my son who is in high school.

STI for me ( but will try to keep it as new as I can or restrict others from driving it and drive the xterra to death)

The plan was to get a car for my son, then I used the opportunity to to get one for myself...

I don't have plans on doing a lot of mods on this car, but planning to have custom paint. the car color is grey. (hood scoop inside rim, the break pads, the lower gril in front, and the side mirrors all in Orange).

The thing I do not want in my car is huge spoiler (as in the sedan) and the big noice exhaust (like SPT etc)
If you have ideas about custom painting please give me some clues.

Hope this gives some idea.

Thanks,
Arthur.

How many kids do you have? How many friends do your kids have? Do you have to take the kids to practice?
I have kids ranging from college to grade school. If they are bringing friends + sports equipment and you have more than 2 kids, it gets cramped in the sedan real quick. I don't know if the hatchback would have room for 3 kids + 2 hockey bags/sticks.

I would recommend a CTS-V wagon, which is what I will own some day, hahahaha.

Just saw that you were more concerned about the current model vs future model question. No one has seen the production WRX/STi for the next gen, so no one knows for sure which model will better suit your needs.
Ok my turn. Married with 3 kids..7,2 & a 3 mos old. They all fit in the sedan. At one time it had 3 car seats in the back. Oldest doesn't need booster anymore. Wifey has a 14 Honda odyssey touring elite which she loves. But my car did manage the day to day tasks just fine and still does sufficiently, it's all in how you organize things!

Hello All,

I finally bought the 2014 STI Base 5 door, and in 2 weeks I managed to put 1000 miles. This car is fun all the way. Even at 6th gear at 80 mph I can still show speed without down shifting. All I have to push is press the gas and zooom it goes. There are few things I faced and may be those will be fine as I start driving more and more...

When downshifting I dropped into 2nd gear a couple of times, besides that I have not realy pushed the car as I am waiting for my radar to arrive.

Also planing the custom paint and the paint estimate seem outrageous ( caliper painting alone this guy is asking $550, paint the grill and spoiler comes another $700, two side mirrors another $250 and labor additionally another $255).

I am sure there are other painters charge reasonably, but still waiting for people to give decent quote... I will update the picture once I am done with my painting.... hopefully soon...

Thank you all who encouraged me to buy this car. This is a good car for anyone as long as they are mature enough to handle the power responsibly...

Arthur.

don't punch it in 6th at freeway cruising speeds. 6th is a cruising gear. if you need a little pickup and go at freeway speeds, downshift! not good for the engine to try to push it in 6th at those speeds.
