Hey,

Just thought I'd share I got mine!

Put over 200 miles on her in the first 24 hours, already addicted!

Put some all seasons on her to get me through the rest of the Chicago winter.

I'm still weighing options for my sub situation, thanks for the info.

Hey Jym, How long from the date ordered to the delivery date? Did the dealer give you a VIN # a few weeks after ordering? I ordered mine 2/8 from Highland Park (Muller) just wondering what to expect other than the 8-12 wks they said.

There are certain factors that play into this, not the least of which is pure chance.

I placed order on the evening of jan 11, got VON email from Subaru on the 13th. Picked up February 24th. I called SOA in February (didn't call dealership because I didn't want them thinking I was whiny or impatient) and they gave me a VIN/ETA and I was quite surprised.

From what I can gather, the one addon that can really increase time waited is the OEM nav. Everything else is installed at port or dealer.

The story from my sales guy at Evanston Subaru is that there was an unallocated DGM hatch on a boat to America which was assigned to me, hence the ~6 week time frame (was quoted 8-12 as well).

I went with a high volume dealership hoping it would get me the car sooner, and maybe that worked. I have no frame of reference to verify that though.

If you're hungry for more info, I would just call SOA with your order number and see what info they have. If you ask your dealer, they're just going to do exactly that so why use them as a middle man? Go right to the source.

What'd you order?

And I sincerely apologize for the thread jack jjhoagland. FYI 460 miles on the ODO, rocking 35% tints all around, RA flaps, and hellas. This Friday I took the day off of work to do more crap to it. Jdm fog overlays and tail overlays, escort 9500ix with hardwire kit, etc. You were right about that mod bug!

No power mods (none in current plans, must wait a couple years before I can afford to do away with warranty) but she's quite powerful and brings a huge smile to my face every time I drive it. Was thinking of starting a journal but I don't want people laughing at the fact that I'm not touching the horsepower :/

No problem at all! I like the RA flaps, they look good.
Regarding power- I actually did stage 1 with AP to try and make the car safer. I run the 91 map and always fill with 93 gas, and I stay away from redline. I was going to wait until warranty was up, but by then the damage would likely have already been done (completely my opinion, I have no facts to back that up other than reading the forums and data logging). Have fun with your car and of course the BOOST!!

Hey Jym - I ordered the same car as yours but in red. Actually you were a huge help in my process! I was trying to get information on pricing and saw the invoice you posted. You saved me a lot of $ and headache! I drove a 5 door they had at Evanston but didn't mesh with the sales guy (me being a girl - he seemed to feel he could screw around on price). I went with the short-throw shifter & homelink rear view mirror. I have another question for you -- your invoice showed the arm rest extension (which I also ordered) but they are saying it's not available. Did you get yours? Also where did you get the tinting done? There's a place in Northbrook - Autowerks that I was gonna check out. Your car looks awesome!

I did not end up getting the extension. Its interesting they told you that it's not available, as I was told that it didn't have red stitching and they didn't install it because it clashed or something. I thought to myself this was a kind of bizarre explanation. Also didnt have the boost gauge available but I decided to pay for it at the cost they quoted and they wrote me an I.O.U. Also the AC outlets are apparently not available for the sti/wrx and only Impreza?

Lots of surprises but I'm still very happy with it.

Tints done in Schaumburg at umbra window tinting. Google them and call, nino is a master of the art and the job cost me $250 flat. Totally flush on all the edges and no bubbles. Just a superb job.

Whats your time estimate for getting the car?

I test drove a red '12 at Evanston with a short throw shifter and 42 miles on the clock. I'm assuming they sold it or something or you may have gone for it.

A little post-rally action (AKA driving at slow to moderate speeds on the long dirt/rock road back to the barn) at my friend's farm:

And finished off the day by letting a little bit of the red on my neck show through haha:

16,775 miles & all is well. Scheduled for my 7th oil change soon.

Re: 2011 DGM STi

I will have some pictures up for you later boss man, ride is looking good! I have some ridiculous plans for my car hahaha...long story though. I almost got rid of it to be a "grown up" and here I am in love with this car much too strongly to let her go. Have about a 6000.00 suspension list that will be worked on soon. Running a c65 DW pump right now still stock fuel system otherwise and about to get a tune up at Forged Performance. In the end it will be a fully built (probably sleeved) stoker, cammed, head job, oversized double sprung valves, probably up the compression ratio to around 8.8 or 9:1 and it should be fun. Going to rotate after all (AMS 750r kit) and run some AMR equal length headers. I have about a 25 thousand dollar to do list and I'm hoping to have it all wrapped up within 18 months or so...hopefully not too much longer if it winds up taking more time. I'll definitely look at brining the car up to KY as I will also be taking a long (no car work) vacation up to Boston and will likely be stationed somewhere out west by then. It's been a while man, glad to see you tripped 17k miles (I'm at 30k) and stop driving in "I" mode John! Hey I should have some good pics up later...going to take some with a few buddies here in a bit down here in GA.

Oh come on guys... just trying to make this thing last for the long haul haha- I've been known to venture in to S and S# at least a few times a day
Gary- your build sounds intense, make sure to document it so I can steal some cool ideas!
Brian- lunch again soon. Can't get enough of that new ELH setup you came home from TopSpeed with so I might be requesting another ride along!

500g Flossy Knob (6sp Redhead Shorty) has arrived... It's so awesome and heavy- over 1lb!
The feel is great, and the coating doesn't get hot in the sun, so all around it was a great pick up.

17k miles? get driving lol. I'm almost at 27k miles now lol.

indeed there was a late winter storm in So Cal this past weekend. Some of my friends and I decided to take advantage of that:

Another storm is headed this way this weekend and they want to go up again haha.

Don't EL headers on a GR make it a unique sounding beast? :D I love how mine sounds. Perhaps that's why Subaru went with the quad exhaust instead of a single for the GR.

mckenzie: I would suggest another company than AMR for headers. I'm friends with one of the techs at COBB SoCal who is doing an AMR install (FMIC, turbo, headers, turboback) on a '10 GR and he told me it's been a headache. Poor quality bends, parts not fitting correctly, and flanges are poorly welded. Perhaps Tomei instead?

You must live in that thing to have already put 27K on it haha that's 2k miles a month!
Love that first picture of the three subies in the snow... just living out what they're meant to do- glad yours is doing well.

8th Oil Change

17,850 miles- 8th oil change this morning.
No oil loss, and the techs said everything is still looking healthy! If this motor goes, it's not going to be from a lack of fresh oil in there haha I'm averaging about 2,100 - 2,800 miles between changes.

She also got a fresh wax and detail at home to get ready for spring:

Re: 2011 DGM STi

Got a quote Friday from TopSpeed for:
Invidia Catted DP
GrimmSpeed EBC
1-step colder iridium plugs
1000cc TopFeed injectors (for future E85 tune)
Aeromotive 340LPH fuel pump
93 tune
Crawford AOS

The only piece I'm not 100% sold on are the larger injectors... I may do smaller injectors and just not go E85.

Will hit 20,000mi later today and all is good so far! I need tires in the next ~4,000 miles or so, but everything else is holding up well. Updates hopefully will be soon to follow.
