Hi I’m a newbie I’ve read 100 forums about my issue and can’t figure out what is causing this. I have a 2005 sti i bought this car recently and slowly been working on her. When i reset ecu i can get 3-4 pulls in at 14psi of boost before my ecu kicks in and puts me on 5-7 psi “wastegate” boost when i hit 15 psi of boost i hear a noise at high rpms max boost idk what the noise is i don’t think it’s a boost leak because why would i hit 14 psi if there was a leak. The noise is causing the problem with ecu. Could it be something wrong with wastegate and if so would it make noise? Also could it be pre ignition/detonation causing ecu to go into limp mode if it is what would cause this detonation at max boost engine compression 140 across all cylinders leak down under 10. I’m new to all this so any help would be great.
Side note maybe the last owner had a tune and it’s running lean causing knock. I’m getting a computer obd2 plug tmrw to log on laptop.

I would start with a boost leak test. If you want me to look at a log or two, let me know. Based on what you posted, there's really no way to narrow it down as there is not absolute data.

just because it hits 14psi doesnt mean there isnt a leak. for all you know it could be trying to hit 21psi and wont make it.
