Well I got pics of that thing up in the FS section, so I'd rather not get unwanted attention for advertising outside of allowed areas. Had a bad experience with that on another board :p

Re: Chris' 2004 Subie WRX

Well I just got a set of Falken FK452s put on the car.
I decided to go with 235/40/ZR17 on my WRX to help out the gearing just a tad and increase maximum cornering grip.

I only have about 150miles on them (replaced Toyo T1S), but I noticed improved maximum grip, slightly more squishy initial turn-in (expected from brand new tires), but amazing grip under heavy/ full braking application. They REALLY grip to slow the car down!

Overall, I like them, and for $444.00 shipped, they are pretty damn good.

Oh yea, I just got a new alignment also, running -1 Camber front, -1.5 camber rear, 0 toe all around. 2.8 caster is fixed.

Re: Chris' 2004 Subie WRX

Well, I finally got these things properly broken in with about 800 miles on them. They got MUCH better compared to brand new. They have really nice lateral grip, pretty good turn in response, and dont squeal like piggies anymore.
I autoX'd them just once at around 500miles old and they could have been better, but Ill attribute that to the tall new treads, and I probably didnt have optimal inflation b/c I found out my pressure gauge was inaccurate when I got back home.

I am doing the same swap on my 02 wrx with 05 drivetrain. Did you do the work yourself or have a shop do it for you?

Its not complete. The trans is sitting in my garage still, but I'll be doing it all at home with several knowledgeable people staffed and fed to help me.

Why I chose 8" wide wheels
I already have fairly new 235 summer tires which would be stretched out on anything wider than 8". I think its all i really need since the car does daily driving MUCH more than track duty.
Plus I got a good price on these wheels from RavSpec, unbeatable for them brand new.

I think going larger would be fun, but i'll be okay with this size.

sounds like a good reason to stick to 8"

it is an improvement considering your WRX wheels were 6.5"!! :D

yea, I have 7.5" rotas, which will serve winter duty from now on. Those same 235 summer tires were a bit squishy on turn-in with the 7.5 wheels, but had massive lateral grip when the car stabilized in the turn.
Hopefully the wider wheels will reduce the squish a bit while keeping max grip.
I'll be getting RE-01R's after the Falkens die though

I had the FK451s and they had a similar squish on an 8" wheel.

i think it's more to do with the softness of the sidewall on the Falken's FK series.

the RE01Rs will be a nice upgrade :)
