13' STi Navigation - Video and movie playback?

Is it possible to play videos from an iphone or ipod AND/or from an SD card or disc such as a dvd or something like that. I saw the divx registration but not sure how that actually works. Any suggestions?

lol

you won't be able to watch videos while driving anyway unless you bypass the head unit so that it plays video when parking brake is down and driving.
You've gotta go aftermarket for that I'm afraid, or be an extreme EE guru badass.
I am curious as to how many have by-passed their parking brake? in order for the navi to play DVD's? would be nice if you have young children so that they can occupy themselves while you focus on the driving. ...Thinking it should be as easy as doing it on an after-market unit. Please chime in if you have done this or know how to do it.

Such a late reply, so sorry about that. Anyways...you can just disconnect the wire that is currently attached to your handbrake (connected to the little button thing the handbrake pushes down)and ground it to some metal on the car. This should work.

There are little EE projects you can do to insert a switch to turn it from legal to illegal, but if you just always want it available, follow what I said above. I'm about to do it within the next week. Would a write-up be appreciated?

just be careful...cop sees moving pics or video while you are driving and it's game over.

Yeah very true. That's the possible positive of installing a switch. You might (but probably won't) be able to show the cop that the handbrake function works and he might've seen the gps moving or something... but if he or she already saw the video you're probably toast
Ya I just really wish I was able to even link videos while I'm parked from my iPhone it play on it. The sound will play through the car but no dice in the image coming up on the nav screen. Any thoughts still or am I correct in thinking that it's just not in the cards with the stock nav?

Yeah I'm pretty sure you're out of luck with that. At least as far as I know.

Thank you for the reply I appreciate it. And not a problem about the delay as I have put the STi in hibernation for the winter, only pull it out once a week to run it for about 10 minutes to keep things lubed up. ...I will try disconnecting that wire and grounding it when I have some extra time over the Christmas Holydays, let me know how it worked for you and if there is anything else that I should know about, thanks again.
I registered online and then it gives ua video to playback on radio that activates the divx playback. I'm not sure if it plays dvds but I put fast 6 on usb flash drive and it plays the movie... The screen goes blue with r brake down though but I'm sure u can fix that easily. .

Idk....we live in Houston, I've seen cops ignore a lady putting on makeup, swaying back and forth with a baby in the back seat.

I guess it just depends on what kind of day they're having haha :busted:
I've seen some crazy stuff man - crazy stuff. But as long as your careful we have Rod Ryan and the jelly reports so that makes life easy in the mornings hahaha
i wish someone could up with a definite answer on whether we can run playback while driving.....

ive searched high and low for answer....

My bad! I didn't update with my progress. Yeah I got it to work, but the pioneer head units make it a little bit harder than just grounding the handbrake wire. Regardless, it is super easy. I'll try to explain it from what I remember.

So what I did was just take the yellow mute wire that is on the end of the plug on the back of the head unit, and put it in the slot next to it. After it's in, I just grounded it to the chassis of the head unit itself.

This video really says it all: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6nlCjHDrryE
I have a 2013 STI limited. I did this off another forum

"Easy Peasy. Pull the head unit out. Look for the gray plug. One wire is sticking out of it. Cut the wire in the middle. Take the wire that still connects to the connector that plugs in the radio and ground it. Problem solved."

I use my USB stick and watch Divx movies while driving with no issues. The kids love it.

Posting mini how to, this should answer pm's also if you mess up your deck its not my fault do this at your own risk and know your own laws

My head unit

Gray wire you need to cut

How I grounded it EASY just used speaker wire no issues with many movies watched.

I did add on a switch in a different spot that was suppose to do something which didn't do anything as seen in the photo just ignore it.
