08 STI w/ no Bluetooth or Ipod Integration

Hey everyone,

I'm fairly new to the forum, usually just lurking around and reading.

I recently purchased a "new to me" 2008 STI with Nav. However, it didn't come with bluetooth or iPod integration. I did some research and realize that these were only options but I'd like to now add these to the factory head unit.

My questions are:
1) Whether any of you folks know if the bluetooth kit comes with the controls for the steering wheel too?

2) Is there a cheaper solution to both the bluetooth kit and iPod Interface sold on Subaru Genuine Parts or those are my best bet?

Thanks all in advance!

I also just purchased a new to me 2008 STi. I installed a Pioneer AVH-X3500BHS with Axxess steering wheel controls. This gave me bluetooth, ipod, pandora, hd radio and integrates to the steering wheel controls. The bluetooth still needs to be handled through the touch screen controls. I am going to try mapping some long presses of the steering wheel controls to the phone. It totaled around $400 for everything if you are handy and can install your self. I recommend a JDM/Forester dash kit so it will be a standard double din opening. Also get the harness from David at AE64.com and micro bypass to remove the limitations while driving.

I don't think there is a good way to add the features you want to the stock radio and the cost would be high. If you want nav there are several good units that would work. Replacement is the easiest path.

all you need is the mic, and it will enable the bluetooth. From the dealer it is crazy expensive, but there are DIY out there for much cheaper.
search around enabling the bluetooth just needs a mic plugged in. but this is only for handsfree calling i believe, no streaming audio from the OEM kenwood navi deck
Thanks for the advice gentlemen.

I think I'm definitely leaning this way in terms of next steps. Does your Pioneer have navi too?
What's your thoughts/$0.02?

I think the mic idea will work only if I had the "call" controls on my steering wheel too which I didn't come with my sti. But I definitely saw the DIY and thread on that route. I would do that if I can find the controls used.
The unit I mentioned does not have nav, but if you have an iphone 4/4s is can mirror the display. It works with the 5 also, but too many adapters to bother with. If you want a nav, Kenwood is king with the Garmin built in. I have heard the pioneer nav isn't very good. I had been seeing the Kenwood 9990 for around $600 refurbished. Very nice unit.

If you happen to have a Samsung Galaxy S3/S4 or some Sony phones there are several units out there with Android mirroring that could put nav from your phone on the screen. Sony and Alpine have stereos with "Mirror Link".

I don't mind the idea of mirroring the display on my iPhone 4 but I'm under the impression that it wouldn't really help in areas where cell reception isn't available.

I've been reading that the Kenwoods are very slow loading units and that the Pioneers use Navteq which is who Garmin gets their maps from. I'm pretty torn in between the two brands...
If you like the Pioneer maps, I have always found Pioneer to have good sounding units. One reason I went with the cheapest Pioneer double din with HD radio, was too wait a year or two for better iphone 5 integration.

I was trying to find something with time alignment, parametric EQ and active capabiity, but they were very expensive. If you are in the same boat I decided it was easier to add a Rockford 3sixty.3 at some point.
