Update and photos from Round 4 last weekend

Successful weekend at Hampton Downs last weekend, didn’t quite manage to get a new PB , but managed 6+ laps in the 1:14’s a few in the 1:15’s with a best time of 1:14.569 for the weekend. Still 0.3 off my PB

Car performed well, didn’t manage to get the ethanol % as high as I wanted at only 60% so may be able to get some more power and cooling with 85% at the next round. Still only manage to do 2-3 hot laps in a row with oil temperature/pressure being the limiting factor, so will hopefully get an additional cooler in before the last round to see if it makes a difference. More consecutive hot laps will help improve my laptimes.
(Ordered a 15 row Koyo oil cooler, core size 360x120mm, which I will stack vertically between radiator and intercooler on the drivers side close to the other oil cooler and run in series - next round is 4-5th May so keen to see any difference)

Will you lose pressure with two serial oil coolers?

Time for dry sump?


Maybe a little bit, the reduction in temps should more than make up for it though.. I guess I’ll see.

Would love a dry sump, not in the budget quite yet though.

2nd Oil cooler now installed, and on a quick spirited street drive struggled to get the oil over 80 degrees and no noticeable drop in normal oil pressures, so hopefully it does its job in this weekend for the final round of the NZ Superlap series!

Successful weekend at Hampton Downs for the final round of #NZSuperlap where I managed to come away with 3rd Street 4WD for the round and the season.
Managed a new personal best of 1:13.577 on street tyres and a new all time PB of 1:12.086 on some semi slicks Brady kindly brought for me to try! Definitely 1:11’s in the car with more time on the good tyres!
Extra oil cooler definitely helped with oil temps down 10-15 degrees after 3 hard laps.

Successful season with respectable results too. Well done.


Thanks, no way I was going to beat the first two guys in my class (1000hp R32 GTR and Evo 10 DCT with some tricks) without a decent amount of extra power so I’m happy with 3rd. Was usually in the top 10 overall which is what I aimed for.

A few recent photos of the car, been daily driving it to work each day for the last few months. Recently changed back to 15W50 from 20W60 oil as it’s a bit colder now and not as much track time at the moment. Got a wheel alignment last week in preparation for a street sprint next weekend. Car still seems to be going well *knocks on wood*

Photos from the street sprint on the weekend. Ended up 2nd overall. Car seemed to perform well, along with a bit of 3 wheeling! Took the Hankook C7 tyres along and couldn’t get full confidence compared to the AD08R’s in the wet. Only remembered to soften up the dampers from the track setting on the last run, but had a moment to lose most of the benefit. Found out post event I was down up to 10psi due to a wastegate or boost leak issue (will have a look tonight)










One of the runs from the Stratford Street Sprint on the weekend. This was a 1:40.01, my fastest was a 1:39.41 with near spin. Lack of confidence and grip on the corners really shows as I’m pretty much just rolling around them and powering down the straights Can’t wait for next year.

Clutch replacement time!

Decided to go with a single again due to still driving the car on the street and mainly only doing short distance race events. Also probably won’t be increasing power in the foreseeable future apart from an engine refresh, which may net me 20-30kw more, max about 600whp.

At 442 ft lbs x 20% drive train loss = 550 ft lbs at the crank. Gives me decent wriggle room to 850 ft lbs. I’d have to gain 240 wheel torque to get to that.

Clutch is an Xtreme Clutch: KSU24001-1R
Ceramic 6 puk clutch
Re-using the stock flywheel - hopefully it’s machinable. (Edit: Stock Flywheel was cracked so upgrade to an FSU003CL - Xtreme Clutch Ultra Lightweight flywheel.)

Will post some feedback once it’s installed.

Clutch is now in, had to adjust the hydraulic ram to get the pedal feel right, other than that went in easy!

The feel is completely different to the Exedy clutch. Nowhere near as daily driver friendly, but expected from a race clutch. With the lightweight flywheel and ceramic clutch plate, you have to really dump the clutch pedal to get it to engage smoothly, otherwise you get judders and jumps, not very ride the clutch friendly. Will hopefully smooth out a bit after is worn in. Will try do some launches and fast shifts after 1000kms as per the break in guidance. Seems fast between gears. Happy with the upgrade.

Had some trouble recently with the car not starting, which I in turn ending up trying to replace spark plugs to try get it to start with no success.

Also changed to a slightly hotter IKH24 spark plug rather than the IKH27, to help with the recent lack of track driving.

After a few weeks of trying different things, sent the car over to Dtech Motorsport to try and diagnose the problem, they found a whole lot of melted wiring on the drivers side, so with that fixed, a bit of extra heat shielding and a couple of sensors replaced, the car started right up!

Car hadn’t been on the Dyno since November 2018, so decided to get it a quick run up to check the engine was still healthy/making power. Car only had pump gas (E10) in it so only run up on that. We have a lack of E85 in NZ from sanitiser production due to COVID. Anyway it made 4whp less than before at 0.5psi less boost, and slightly higher torque at lower rpm.
Still going strong after nearly 2yrs and 6yrs since the forged motor build! Very Baffling. 6yrs and 40k kms (25k miles) of 300-400kw power and it seems to just be getting stronger. Still would need a bigger turbo and stronger bottom end to go over 400kw.

480whp, 446wtq @ 28psi

Previous Pump Gas: 485whp, 446wtq @ 29psi

Peak power made at exact same rpm +/- 10rpm
