So here she is. In 2003, a friend of mine got a brand new 2.5RS as a birthday present while they were still in High School. Not gonna lie, I was kinda jealous. It was an awesome looking car. (And had way more balls than my 96 Eclipse RS) That was the point I became turned on to Subaru. I figured, "If this is a bottom end Impreza, I wonder what an STi must feel like". Oh little did i know then.. Fast forward to June 2009 on deployment under the ocean somewhere.

A bored friend of mine decides he doesnt want his payments anymore and will sell the car for what he owes. $24500. Unfortunately, I dont want to spend that kind of money so I offer up my 2001 Jeep Cherokee as a trade and he comes back with $16000. Thus begun my STi adventure.

So slowly but surely I'm getting into this modifying scene and learning what this car can really do. If at any point anyone has any recommendations, I am more than willing to listen.

Nice car. Thanks for serving our country. I don't consider them mods, I like to call them improvements!

Re: 06STi Gary's 2006 OBP STi (Sue B) meets iwsti.com

Its been a while guys. Sorry for the lack of progress on the build, but with HB Speed shutting its doors and COBB Tuning SoCal not opening before I left, everything kinda came to a halt. Now I have moved back to the East Coast and after I finish closing on my house, I can turn the focus back to the toys. I've recently been in contact with the gentlemen at EFI Logics and I think it's a safe bet that things will be getting underway here in the next few months. I'll do my best to keep you updated throughout the process.

Since my last post, someone thought it'd be a great idea to try to steal my front bumper. All they got was the lip spoiler and the fog light covers / vent inserts off the bumper. In doing so, the pulled the front bumper off to the headlights and broke off the clips. The inner wheel well mud guards were broken and cut out. Wheel wells are replaced. Body kit is being considered... $250 for stock front bumper $250 for inserts + paint for all... might as well go aftermarket.

Re: 06STi Gary's 2006 OBP STi

APS FMIC arrived today with hardware. Pipes should be here tomorrow. Damn UPS! Pictures to follow.

And since I was lucky enough to catch a screw in my driver rear tire and a nail in my passenger rear tire in the same day, I am considering going wider on the tires come the spring time. I was looking at the Rota G-Force 18x9 5x114.3 +30 with some 255/35R18's and some KW Variant 1 Coilovers to support.

Anybody have any experience with this kind of setup? Am I asking for trouble, or would a good alignment handle it. Fender rolling/pulling? I've read up on it a bunch and it seems like at this size tire.. it's all just a game of luck. Some guys can pull it off stock, others have major mods to do.

Re: 06STi Gary's 2006 OBP STi

All the parts have been installed by EFI. I pick her up today at noon so pictures will follow. Only problems I ran into at the shop were that my clutch (Spec Stage 1) caused a bunch of tiny stress cracks in my flywheel making it unusable. (Not really sure how that happens. I thought the clutch was the wear product here...) And my meth pump and line need to be replaced as they are running inconsistiently. SO for now, I will just get a 93 tune to get her home. The meth pump and line are on order so stand by for future re tune with meth!

Re: 06STi Gary's 2006 OBP STi

Updated computer graph instead of shotty cell phone picture. Meth graph to follow during start of 2012.

Also some feedback... The car made enough torque to rip my old engine mount in half. Caused the FMIC piping to pull out of the couplings causing a "boost leak" to say the least during a road test with Chris from EFI. 911 to the shop and Jack showed up with a flashlight and tools and we limped her back to the shop. After some new Group N engine mounts, she was good to go! I have noticed that the FMIC has been getting more oil than I'd like in it so I think an A/O separator is in order shortly. Also I think I'll be looking at new tranny mount and shifter bushings come the new year.

Today I bought my spring time tire setup and will be going wide next year.

Rota Grid 18x9.5e38 wrapped in 265/35R18 RE-11's. After a fender pull and an alignment, I'll be sure to post up pictures. Stay tuned around March/April when all this snow we've been having stops... Or rather, i guess if it ever starts??! December 31st and the only snow we've seen all year was on halloween. Not sure if i should be excited or upset. I feel like i'm eating up snow tread for nothing, but I know as soon as i switch back to summer tires, it'll snow. Murphys law. Right?

Ladies and Gentlemen, have a safe and happy New Years Eve! Stay out of trouble and remember you can always call a cab. Your car will be there tomorrow!

Re: 06STi Gary's 2006 OBP STi

So I got an email today saying that my Meth pump has arrived! Jan 16th I'll be sending the car in for a retune. While she's there we are gonna get a Group N tranny mount and some shifter bushings done as well.

I also got a call from the rim supplier. He said the Grids are backordered 6-10 weeks. I guess not a big deal since I dont need them till Spring anyway. So in light of this I asked what he had in the 18x9.5 variety that did not require spacers to work as I really didnt want to have to do that. I wound up potentilally ordering the Boost 2's pending a test fit with pictures on the shop car to verify clearance of everything (or at least the brembos). I'll post those pictures in a couple of days when he sends them.

My spring tires came in today. It was exciting to see them stacked outside next to my wife's 195/65r15's lol. 4 of her tires = 2.5 of mine. Winning!

Here are 2 of my old 235's next to the new 265's

Here are the new spring tires:

Re: 06STi Gary's 2006 OBP STi

Today I was fortunate enough after the last couple of days of seeing idle A/F ratios of 14.2 on my gauge to throw a CEL. P0031 to be specific. Awesome. So I have a new sensor on order along with a few other things listed in a previous post.

Fed Ex sent me tracking numbers for my Spring time wheels. They should be here on the 14th. So at least that's exciting.

I get to go to court tomorrow for a ticket I got a month or two ago. "Assumed Street racing" I was pulled over because the officer tagged the car in front of me doing 60 by his laser. Let me set the stage before I rant that this is unfair. When you are leaving my work, there are two lanes. One goes to the left and one goes to the right. Pretty straight forward. For those familiar with the Groton Sub Base, this was on Crystal Lake Rd. heading towards Route 12. I was in the right lane coming out of work, but had about 1/2 to 3/4 mile to switch to the left lane before the light as I was making a left and live in that direction. The 300ZX that got tagged had left work behind me by 2 cars and quickly shifted to the left lane where he sped up to as it turns out, 60MPH. I moved over after him since I had to go to that lane anyway. I saw the cop sitting up the road in someones driveway. He clearly had the laser out. As I was sitting at the traffic light waiting to turn left, (mind you the 300 was turning right), the officer had come out with his lights on into oncoming traffic and drove up to the corner. He blocked traffic and got out of his car. He walked back through the cars in line at the light and pulled both me and the 300 over. Now, I have no idea why i'm being pulled over as I was only doing 30 (Granted it's a 25MPH zone, but seriously.. 5 over?) When the officer came over, I greeted him and inquired what the issue was and why he had stopped me. He proceded to tell me that "you and your buddy over here were street racing" to which I replied "I dont even know who that guy is". Which as it turns out, I dont. I proceded to tell the officer what had just happened and how I wound up behind the 300 and that I understood how he may have seen things but that this simply was not the case. I asked the officer what he had used to tag me and requested to see it. He told me that he did not get me with any kind of speed verification but rather it just looked like I was speeding too so I MUST have been doing 60 as well. (Note to self: Car looks like it's speeding ALL THE TIME). He wound up writing me a ticket for $255 I believe for "Speeding" but didnt write the speed he says I was doing or the speed of the zone I was in. Now, I've gotten my fair share of tickets and when I'm caught, I admit it and just pay the fine. But seriously, could we profile a car any harder here? I plead not guilty to this since there is no proof of any of this happening and that he couldnt even tell me how fast I was going. And I guess the fact that I wasnt actually racing this clown as it wouldnt have even been a competition. #wasteofgas SO with all of that said, wish me luck tomorrow... :) #endrant

Re: 06STi Gary's 2006 OBP STi

Just dropped her of again at EFI for her last batch of goodies for a while. So on Wednesday I should have her back feeling like a million bucks. Methanol graphs to follow as soon as they are posted online. Pictures of A/O separator and rim/tires mounted to follow.

LOL How'd court go? No proof, no ticket. I hope it got thrown out.

I got a speeding ticket when racing but "I was so far ahead of the other car she couldn't prove we were even racing." :p That was in 06.
