I have a Spec C trunk with holes for a WRX spoiler. I have decided to go wingless until I can decide on a spoiler. At first, I was going to go with the S202 replica, but it is very very heavy... 3.8 lbs for the wing and 8 lbs for the STEEL brackets. There is an S203 replica that weighs about 1 lb for the wing and 6 lbs for the steel brackets, but it does not fit the WRX pattern. There are other wings out there with aluminum brackets but are almost $1500!!! For that, I might as well get the genuine S203 or S204 wing for $1000... or just get the replica for $500.

The body shop I'm dealing with says tig welding the aluminum requires too much heat and because the metal is so light and thin, it will distort it and mess it up... so I've decided on rubber, plastic, or vinyl plugs for now. What do you guys suggest and where do I get them?

you know what, im dealing with the same issue, im removing my wing and want to just plug the holes on my trunk in case i want to put my wing back on for track purposes. on my 04 i went for the spec c look and removed my sideskirts as well, i just covered the holes with color matching vinyl stickers. couldnt even tell, they were on the car for over a year and never faded. you think i should do the same with my trunk? or buy a carbon trunk and have it color matched? feedback fellas.

I found a place... www.capsnplugs.com but they sell in HUGE quantities only... like 1000+.... but I think I may be able to talk them into sending me 7 free samples :).

I like the vinyl sticker idea though... did you actually paint match them or just get ones that were "similar" in color?

Spec C has side skirts removed? How much weight does that save? I may consider doing that as well... I thought the side skirts on the STI were functional. Opinions?

If you have a Spec C trunk, do not get a CF trunk... if you have stock and looking to save weight, then let me know what you find in a CF... I could not find one that was both adequate in fit and in price... so I went with the Spec C trunk, which is exactly 11.0 lbs by the way...

interesting about the spec-c sideskirts. i've looked a tons of pictures and i've never noticed that. what did you replace your skirts with?

also, you might check McMaster.com for plugs. look under "finishing plugs", about $5 (plus shipping which can be a lot form McMaster) for 100.

Why don't you just replace your trunk lid with an rs trunk lid?

yea check out the spec c's they have no sideskirts like the older 2.5rs. i just got color matched vinyl. they completely kept water out and you could only tell up front. but you know what, i was recently browsing japanparts.com and found that there is a newer version of spec c trunk ra-r that has no holes in it. its completely wingless and an aluminum trunk for $363! what you guys think? spec c rar or carbon?

DAMN..... I wish I knew about this before... :(

I would go with Spec C RAR... it's just more "OEM" hehe... and only 2 lbs heavier than a typical CF trunk... but to me, that 2 lbs is justified... unless u are not going to paint the CF trunk and like the look of the CF.

I feel a little better about my decision when after I go to Japanparts and click on the shipping.... it's about $600 US via the cheapest method!

to the guy above, just go with a CF trunk... I got the last one from sojdm.com and got a decent deal on shipping because they brought them in a container.... if u bring it in by itself, shipping kills you.

Yea i think i may go that route, but again it depends cuz i get a steal on the carbon products from seibon. anyhow, i did take my wing off today and it looks pretty decent. im gonna pick up the color matching vinyl on monday and leave it on for a week and see how i feel about it.

Let me know how many pre-cut circles you need, i will PM you a price. The color match is very good; however since there is different process (painting vs. vinyl) there is a slight difference. The hardest one to match is the White and Black.

I helped another individual who just went to the parts store and got some of the plastic tree plugs. I furnished him with the vinyl to go over the plugs once he installed them into the trunk lid.

It is a decent temp fix until a new trunk is ordered.

"i just wanted to update u on my trunk issues... i am on a similar boat with you... i already told u how i tried to get a seibon cf trunk, but it did not fit, so i was going to try out the vis [another brand]... well, it turns out that the idiots at vis use 10mm screws to bolt down the trunk rather than the stock size of 12mm [jic if u didnt know that already]... so i think that i will ultimately end up doing is patching up the holes and then mount the s202 wing on there... i am a little worried that the new holes i have to drill might interfere with the original holes i have patched up... i will have to go down to the body shop to get their input..."

The above is a PM I got from a guy in a similar situation as me. I'm glad I didn't go with Seibon or VIS. I'm happy with my Spec C trunk, possibly 2 lbs heavier and all... OEM fitment... it just got finished painting yesterday... gonna go to the shop and pick it up today! I've also decided on a wing!! And it's NOT the S202 (heavy), S203 (doesn't fit WRX holes and 3 diff. shops said NOT to weld up the holes... NORMALLY they can weld up the aluminum but because the Alum. used on the Spec C trunk is so bloody thin, it will warp BAD they said), or S204 (same reason as S203)...

I've decided on the APR Performance GTC-200 which fits the stock WRX holes! It's adjustable, and weighs only 6 lbs TOTAL.... lightest I've found.. uses true CF for the wing for 1.5 lb weight, and then Alum. for the brackets for about 4.5 lbs in weight.... most others use steel for the brackets.

Ok PM me a price... I'm gonna run a wing for track, but maybe I will go wingless on the street... it's 9 holes total, with 2 of them being oval and slightly bigger than the other 7.

What did you mean by painting vs. vinyl? Do you mean painting vinyl is diff. than painting aluminum or steel? I have platinum silver.

Did you mean the hardest COLORS to match are white AND black?
