Sorry for such a delay guys, I had to find photos, take photos and time got away from me.
If you have any questions, feel free to PM me, I can answer faster there. :)

(1) Subaru JDM fog light (bought it from SMY Performance)

(1) Subaru "oe-style" rear fog light switch, comes with switch and harness which you have to modify a little (Foglight switch - FTEIGHTYSIX)
  • Red- Power from fuse box
  • Black- ground
  • Yellow- power from fog light
(1) Add-a-fuse, use the 5amp fuse (Littelfuse MINI ADD-A-CIRCUIT | Product Details | Pep Boys)

(1) Misc wiring, connectors and soldering tools. You will need +/- 15ft of 18g red wire.

I decided instead of soldering all wiring together, I would make each connection have its own plug. You can use whatever connectors you wish, or solder everything. This way if I want to disconnect something and replace/modify I can do it to each section at a time.

To the install,
Once the fog light is in its housing (make sure the tabs on the bracket are on the BOTTOM!) feed you wiring through the drivers side grommet.

Cut the connector plug on the JDM harness (useless on USDM cars) and add a c-style adapter to the black wire, which is ground, and crimp and solder. I believe this is a 5mm SS nut (separate, not actually found in that spot). Ground harness to the metal body.

Add a connector to the red wire of the harness. Next it's time to feed the red wire (which is power) to the front fuse box under the steering wheel.

The seats come off easy but you don't really need to take them fully off. Under the middle part is a clamp that when you squeeze it, it releases the bottom seat. Look for tabs to clip the red power wire to and secure. Do this all the way to the front by removing the door sill trim and slightly pulling back the trim where the seatbelt is.

Once you have the wire to the front leave a little extra and cut unnecessary wire. Add a connector to the end. The red wire is going to plug into the yellow wire of the switch's harness.
Red wire is from the power of the fog light. You can see the switch harness on the floor mat. The red wire is now going into a yellow connector of the switch harness.

Make connection from the add-a-fuse and red wire from the switch harness and tap in the 10a cigarette lighter fuse location. I chose this spot because I never use the cig lighter for anything. The bulb is 21w and uses 3a tops.

DISCLAIMER:When tapping in to this fuse, make sure you don't actually use your cigarette outlet to charge anything as a fuse may blow if you have the fog turned on and something plugged in to the outlet. Be warned!

Ground the switch's harness to the metal location below.

Plug the switch harness (green plug) to the back of the switch. This is after you remove the little plastic cover on the front which hides that location.

This is how it looks before tucking and hiding all the wiring. Red wire from switch harness- 10amp cig fuse. Black to ground next behind steering wheel. Yellow to red of fog power.

Reattach all trim and tuck all wiring. This is how the switch lights up before activating rear fog. It's amber in color and the light does pass through a little before turning it on.

Re: JDM Rear Fog Light install, full DIY

Thanks guys! Added a small note about using the cigarette outlet if you tap into its fuse location. Essentially, to prevent a blown fuse, don't have anything plugged in to it like an phone or radar.

Re: JDM Rear Fog Light install, full DIY

have you tried using the R.Fog Fuse Location instead? in our internal fuse box there is a Labeled R.Fog open spot. I am wondering if you added the Add-A-Fuse to that location if it would work?

That's the first location I thought of using. I only tapped the cig lighter because someone else who has done this install used that location and that's where I started as a reference point. I'll have to look in to it, but I don't see as to why it wouldn't work in the R.Fog location. My only concern is why there's a fuse there in the first place as our USDM cars are not equipped with rear fogs.

Was a relay used?

Under the "**CLICK FOR DETAILS AND PRODUCT DESCRIPTION" section
it states "***- Yellow has to go to a relay to power fogs or whatever else (if not the switch will blow)"

No relay. The bulb doesn't put out nearly enough power to need a relay. A 5a fuse will suffice for a bulb with only 2-3a max.

The switch I purchased install instructions are for a front fog light setup where you are tapping the ignition wire for power, etc.

planning to install 2015 Forester Switch but i dont know how to hook up.. :(

What are the pins/wire colors for that switch?

there's a harness folded/taped behind the dash and it look like this.. (this was cut)

makes me wonder if that harness even needs to be cut or just plugged straight into the add on switch and the power wire tapped into the Power wire on the harness.

Re: JDM Rear Fog Light install, full DIY

I just tried tapping to the R FOG fuse. It's a 12V constant source so no bueno. I tapped into the ILLUM fuse so the button doesn't work until the parking lights are on at night.

Re: JDM Rear Fog Light install, full DIY

JoeJoe, did you tap in with the fog Switch connected? or just a straight tap wire into that Fuse Spot? Thanks for trying regardless! good to know. Also I am curious if anyone has tried running their Fog Wire up to the harness in the engine bay under the ABS Unit. If you look just under and slightly forward of the ABS Distribution Unit in the engine bay you'll find a wire with the male and female connector attached, but the Female portion has no wire coming out of it, only two rubber grommet plugs. My suspicion is that this is either for the JDM Fog Bezel DRL, or the REAR Fog Wire.
