ok im a bit worried. the past week, i've been getting a puff of white smoke after start up. and it only happens after parking over night. what could be the prob? I'm going to go get a compression and leak down test in the next week here. any other ideas this might cause it to puff during start up??

Turbo seals possibly too. You could always take off the oil filler cap with the motor running. White puffs of smoke = bad, like cracked piston, but no smoke doesn't rule out problem. Compression and leakdown is the right thing to do.

^^^What he said! What year? Mods?

Same thing happened to me last week. Wound up with 65psi on cyl #4. It's now my second motor that went inside of 30k mi. It's been a week and still no word from Subaru as to if it's coverd or not.

Definately check the oil filler while it's running and check for smoke. Then either way bring it to Subaru to check out the turbo seals, and get a compression leakdown. Also are u running hot. You might want to check your oil and see if it's milky. That could be a headgasket. White smoke and it smells sweet means coolant

Good luck with it though

+100 turbo seals are first thing that comes to mind, then look at compression/leak down test to follow up.

+1 I had the same problem with my 07 only on cold starts I would get smoke. Get a compression done ASAP!

Could be wrong but I thought white smoke was either water vapor or coolant while blue smoke was oil (most likely ringlands or turbo seal). Either way get the compression and leak down done for piece of mind.

That can be hard sometimes. I had smoke on start up and it scared the hell out of me. Turned out it was oil burning. I had over filled the oil a bit to much. It burned it off and stopped smoking. Now I pay very close attention to how much I put in...

I had my oil changed at a local dealership a while back. One of the Subaru techs said there is an oil additive that is supposed to be really good for turbo engines. He asked if I wanted to try it. I agreed and about 100 or so miles later, I had the same problem. Only on start-up after sitting for many hours. I changed the oil again after 3000 miles and the smoke went away. Have you added anything to the oil? This could be your culprit. Keep us informed on what you find out.
