Yeah I got rid of all that crap and started fresh. Finished the new crash bar today. Made it out of 304 stainless schedule 10 1 1/4" pipe and 3/16" 304 stainless plate. Might add some lower subframe ties ins but man the thing is sturdy.

I am using a new AHP tig welder and my age is starting to show as I am having a hard time keeping my hands steady during the welds. Practice will prevail I suppose.

Heat exchanger is mounted up as well. Pics of the build.

This is definitely one of the more fun builds I have done.

That is a giant heat exchanger! I'm curious what usage your car sees, since there's flairs, what looks like winter tires, I think still an A/C compressor but no condenser. I'm going to have to read your journal to find out.

dude, the fabrication is fucking beautiful. now THAT'S a bumper beam. brace and tie that sucker into the subframe and you really got something there.

What would the chance be of mounting a large enough heat exchanger under the oem hood scoop to cool a 35r sized awic? This would solve any problem with restricting air flow to the radiator and having to remove the bumper beam for a front mount heat exchanger. To reduce possible heat soak from dead stops, a fan could be mounted to the heat exchanger pulling in fresh air through the scoop.

Default T-Gs Air to Water IC Build

Not close to the 182 sq in (26x7x2) heat exchanger the OP used. I agree it would be ideal though Not likely big enough even though the OP probably had more than absolutlely necessary.

Where would the AWIC be?

One of the issues with radiator air flow is the fact there is a hoodscoop.

removing the hoodscoop and sealing the area with a front mounted heat exchanger would be better then a heat exchanger mounted in the stock hood scoop area.

if you wanted to get creative with the heat exchanger mounting you could put it in the trunk.

Bad idea to mount that much weight above the motor, low and center is best for CoG

just remember to seal up the opening for the radiator so that air will only go through the core and not around it. I spent more time working that problem out than I did on going about mounting it to the front-end. I also have a pair of fans mounted to mine to help move more air than just relying on the OEM's to pull air through.
