Default dchoi's 2016 Lapis Blue ZE40's Now On

Hey guys, been lurking on the thread for years now. Always wanted an STI going back to the 06/07 hawkeyes, but never had an opportunity to get one until now.

Picked up my 2016 Lapis Blue base model on Jan 23, 2016 with 8 miles on the clock. I was torn between white and this color, but all my previous cars had been white, so I decided to go with something a little different.

I've never owned a boosted car, nor an awd car, so driving it felt very different, but quickly realized I'd been missing out. My goals for the car at the moment are pretty mild. I want to get the aesthetics and suspension dialed in first. Then it'll be a turboback exhaust and a tune. All the while I'll be saving for a motor build down the road, where I'll be shooting for 450awhp on 91 with a turbo that will spool as quickly as possible.

Modding started pretty quickly. I wanted my car to end up looking a lot like the forged performance STi, and I ended up ordering my wheels, tires, and coils within the next week.

I got some Hankook v12's in 265/35/18. I wanted to get RS3's, because that's what I ran on my previous car, but because this is my DD, I wanted something with a little better treadwear.

A couple weeks later, the Volks arrived! ZE40's in bronze. 18x10 +35

These REALLY pop in person. Concavity is super nice as well.

Just waiting on my coils and lug nuts to arrive and everything will be installed/mounted. US Customs suck...

Anyways, seen some amazing builds on here so far and hopefully I'll be able to meet some of you guys one day.

Welcome!

I can't wait to see those wheels installed, bronze on that Lapis Blue is going to look fantastic!

Also any reason you didn't go up in tire size to 275 or even 285? I've got 265 on my 9.5" and could probably have gone to 275's. Not saying it's wrong just curious!

Hey magicmike,

I was debating 275's but I saw some similar setups and talked to forged performance, who is running the same spec wheel, and they told me they were running 265's with a fender roll and around -2.5 degrees camber, and I didn't want to push it any more than that. We'll see how it fits and if i can get away with 275's I will probably end up getting those next.

Thanks man. I'm expecting to run a little bit more camber than normal, but I've seen a few sti's with 18x10 and they don't seem to be too extreme. I'll keep you guys posted with pics of course.

That's funny. I came from a 370z as well. had stillen gen3's, fast intentions test pipes and exhaust, m7 coils, and re30's on rs3's.

Dchoi01, who have you been talking to over at Forged Performance? Bobby is a great guy. I've gone through him for 2 sets of wheels now.

I emailed Bobby a few times, and he's been very helpful. Very quick responses and very professional. I wouldn't hesitate to do business with him.
