So here is my journal for my 2008 AW Base STI; I purchased it on November 10, 2008 with 87 miles on it. I payed $31,760 after Tax, Title, Registration. It is my first new car purchase and absolutely love it; I knew once I saw it in AW that I had to have it. The only extra options that came on the car were the iPod integration, upgraded sound system, alcantra arm rest, and wheel locks.

My Take on an Escort 8500 Hardwire

I hardwired my Escort and I am an MECP Master Installer and my technique is to (almost) always hardwire everything behind the stereo so I got the hardwire kit, took it apart, soldered the power wires into the factory stereo harness.

Accessory Power is Yellow/Red and I used Black/Blue for Ground

Instead of using the mute button located on the hardwire kit (which is now behind the stereo) I soldered another button onto the circuit board and put the button in the blank panel next to the automatic mirror controls. It was really easy, took the panel off, popped the blank panel off, drilled the hole in the panel and the plastic behind it, then hot glued the crap out of it... I still havenīt decided where I want to put the notification LED but I think I will put two on the underside of the tope of the gauge cluster shroud.

I put the actual unit to the right of the rearview mirror outside of the black dots on the windshield. The face is angled towards the driver by design of the unit and it works out well.

The button work perfectly and I sat in my STI trying to figure out where to put it for like 20 minutes and then I knocked myself in the head and was like Of Course!

Now Pictures!

Custom LED Lights in Center Console

SO.....you can't see **** in the center console. So I got some red LEDīs and put them in my center console. You will notice that you can see the circle of the bulb and so I think I am going to switch to diffused LED's so it is more of an ambient light like the rest of the car but I do like it.

I soldered the LED's into the power port wires in the center console, drilled some small holes and hot glued the LED's in there...took about twenty minutes.

Black STI Intercooler Logo

When I bought the STI back in November I really wanted to do something so I decided to paint the Intercooler with the STI logo. I followed the writeup that is floating around here somewhere but I didn't use cardboard paper so some of the paper got wet and got on the IC, you can't notice it in person but for some reason in pictures it shows up. I did it in black, not red...I plan on having the whole engine bay black and want to get black STI logos, if not then I will go to pink badges but then I will just leave the engine bay the way it is....who wants a pink engine bay?
