Default 2018/2019 Type RA Engine in 2015 STI?

I'm swapping out my short block due to piston ringland issues and I'm planning on staying with an OEM block because I don't plan on pushing my car past Stage 2. I remembered the Type RA being announced in 2018 and after doing some research I found out that Subaru claimed that the pistons are reinforced.

My question is, will the 2018/2019 Type RA short block be compatible with my 2015 STI? It doesn't seem to be any different other than reinforced pistons, but I want to make sure that I'm not missing anything and end up wasting money on a short block that doesn't fit. Also the blocks are similarly priced so even if the pistons aren't any stronger I'm barely losing any money.

Thanks!

It'll be a direct swap.

Great! Thanks for the fast reply. I wasn't quite sure because the Subaru parts website doesn't list it as compatible.

Its the same engine. Some parts may be reinforced but nothing is functionally different. Swap away.

Hmm. It looks like the head gaskets and cylinder heads have different part numbers than the 2015 STIs. Do you still think it is okay to swap only the short block?

Just make sure you use the 15 HG. The block mating surface hasn’t changed since 04.

How did the swap go?

I'm planning on doing an ra swap on my 08. I'm gonna use arp2000 headstuds and see how that goes

I have a Cobb 20g
Thinking of getting equal length headers to help with heat
