Default 08 EJ257 swapped into 12 STI - do i need to swap ECM?

Hey everyone!

I just purchased a complete 08 STI USDM EJ257 complete from oil pan to intercooler with all sensors and harness.

I swapped this into my 2012 STI USDM EJ257 direct bolt in sensors and harness all plugged in fine.

Car wont start. Motor cranks, but I get no attempt to fire up. Confirmed fuel, harnesses, vacuum lines, etc.

I am guessing that the 2012 ECU may not be appropriate for 08 sensors???

If so, can I just swap in the 08 ECU? Or, do i have to do the ignition and instrument cluster as well?

Any insight would be a massive appreciation.

Google hasn't provided any insight

looking at the factory part store - the 2 years have different part numbers.

It's the same ECU and tune, both longblocks are the exact same thing.

The only difference with the 08 vs 09-14 is that you couldn't disable Hill Assist, and the instrument cluster had a different display layout for the traction control light. Everything else should be plug and play.
