Sounds like a very scientific survey you're running there, champ.

dunno i see a lot with some miles on them...are they prone to break yes, is any other car, yes...just cuz you have to take out a second mortgage for a clutch job doesn't make it less reliable than any other...i do have a preference for Japanese cars as i seem to have better luck, one family i do car work for prefers GM and ford and have amazing luck like i have never seen with those cars...their Japanese cars didn't last so long tho lol

Keeping this thread going.. Some big rumors around the other models.

Car and Driver's article "expects":
What We Know about the V-8 that Will Power the C8 Corvette Z06 and ZR1
Quote:
The expected 5.5-liter engine will offer 600 to 1000 horsepower and a Ferrari-rivaling sound.
Quote:
We expect that the Z06, ZR1, and hybrid versions will use a 5.5-liter flat-plane-crank V-8 engine in various states of tune, making between 600 and 1000 horsepower.
Quote:
We expect the C8 Corvette Z06 will use a naturally aspirated version of the engine that will supposedly rev to 8600 rpm and develop in excess of 600 horsepower, a power figure that's credible given the Voodoo's power rating and 8250-rpm redline. (More revs equal more power per liter.) It is rumored that GM engineers had designed the motor to spin to 9000 rpm, but that design elements of the Tremec-built dual-clutch automatic transmission—the same one that will be standard across all versions of the C8—restricted the redline to the lower number... This engine will help the Z06 return to its roots as a lightweight, naturally aspirated, high-revving, rear-drive, track-focused car.
Quote:
The ZR1 will be the big daddy of Vettes, and its twin-turbocharged version of the flat-plane crank engine can be expected to put out well over 800 horsepower.
Quote:
That Nürburgring honor will go to the hybrid version of the C8, rumored to be called eRay or Zora. It will have a powerful electric motor where the front trunk is in other models (see cutaway, above), which powers the front wheels independently of the rears; the twin-turbo engine will drive the rear tires. A small battery will be housed low in the structure, possibly inside the car's central spine. Total system power is expected to approach 1000 horsepower for brief periods.
This contradicts Motortrend's expectation of it being closer to a 4.2L:
Source: C8 Corvette Z06 Getting Flat-Plane-Crank Twin-Turbo V-8! - MotorTrend
Quote:
Expect the C8's displacement to grow from the Blackwing's 4.2 liters, but fall well short of the 5.5-liter number that's been thrown around. The number of issues Ford has had with Voodoo engine failures alone should dispel any notion of Chevrolet going to an even larger displacement.
I see the word expect an awful lot of times in all of these articles... I get the feeling that the rumors are pure speculation at this point.

If the leaked specs below are legit for the base model & Z51.. what kind of performance will the Z06, ZR1 & potential hybrid bring?

I've never been a huge Corvette fan, but if they make a mid-engine Z06 with a...
  • Naturally aspirated flat plane crank V8 with "Ferrari rivaling sound"
  • Equipped with a manual transmission (revving to the rumored 9k rpm redline) - deal breaker & likely won't happen
  • Producing 600+ hp
  • Weighing ~3500 lbs
  • Power/weight ratio = ~6
  • 0-60 mph < 2.9 seconds
  • 0-100 mph < 7 seconds
  • 1/4 mile = 10.x seconds
.. then I may have to start saving my pennies.

Well, I sure as hell hope the 0-100 would be <11.0 seconds considering the base model will probably do 0-100-0 around that time

I doubt this car will ever get a manual.

Sorry, typo fail

Unfortunately, that's probably true.

2020 Chevrolet Corvette C8 Engine Lineup Leak Reveals Twin-Turbo V-8 With 850 HP - The Drive

If this is true, I will be buying the top tier model for sure. Hope it's a targa top too. That's like a 720s performance-wise. Holy shit.
