Here's where I'm at so far with the tail lights. This is what I get for trying to do it differently from everybody else. What was supposed to take a day or two has now stretched to almost 3 weeks. So I used play-doh to fill up the reverse light holes so that I could leave a little bit of chrome to help the lights reflect more like I did with the high beams on my head lights. Unfortunately, the play-doh did a tiny bit of damage to a couple of the light holes, and where a little bit of black leaked around the play-doh, I had to use sand paper to get it off the chrome. So all I have left is a little bit of black touch up around a few light holes and then figuring out what to do about the sanded/scuffed up chrome.

Anybody have any idea what to do to fix the chrome?

I'm thinking of taping around the holes and spraying some duplicolor metalcast smoke or red. Any thoughts?

Well, decided to go with the duplicolor metalcast red for the brake light holes. So more taping and painting time. Here's how they look after probably 5 really light coats. These things are a pain to get the paint into all the grooves in the light holes, but I think it came out pretty nice. I'll have to wait a few more hours until I can pull the tape off and assess my success.

1st Coat:

2nd Coat:

3rd Coat:

4th and hopefully final coat:

All that's left on these is a little flat black touch up around the light holes and then cure time and reassembly.

Also, just finished painting, the chrome air vent levers on the center console black as well as the a/c control knobs, the border around the three gauges, the center console around the shifter and the few grey pieces on the shifter; all flat black. Even blacked out the pink/cherry blossom STi logo in the gauge cluster. That damn thing always seemed out of place anyways.

Then sanded the back of the little gear number piece in the center of the shift knob and painted the background gloss red.

Pics coming soon.

Finished painting the gauge surround and blacking out the 'Pink' STi light on the gauge cluster with a perfectly cut and placed piece of black gorilla duct tape. This set up looks so much better now.

Thanks, I think it should have come from the factory like this. But it's not difficult at all. I'm in the process of doing a write up on it right now since I haven't found one that matches our year model yet. Should have it done sometime today/this week.

Patience young grasshopper.

Finally got my black powder coated wheels put back on. Those chrome lug nuts really don't match anymore, so I'll guess I'll have to find some black ones.

Here's a few crappy picks with my blackberry in my terribly lit garage.

What my car looks like with candy apple red Enkeis that I borrowed from one of my subie buddies here while mine got coated.

And here it is with the BBS black powder coated wheels and the "meh" factory chrome lugs. I really need to get some tire dressing on these Michelins. Now they look grey.

Got a hold of the only guy in town that has a laser key cutting machine. Not even the stealership can make their own keys!!!!! So I was able to finish up doing the flip/switchblade key conversion. Nice that it takes up less room in my pocket. If only I could drive.

I have a 4 day weekend so hopefully, my car gets put back together then.

You can use the McGards spline drive lugs on stock wheels...conveniently in black.
