Where did you order the led strip from?

Cool, thanks... How visible is it during the day?

If you are standing there looking at the back of the car, you can't really see the strip because of where it's mounted. if you bend down and look up you can see it and can clearly see that they are lit up really bright. But in the daylight, you won't see the red actually shinning/reflecting off/on of anything. But they do still look really nice in the daytime when it's lit up.

I might eventually wire in a switch up front to manually turn them on when the hatch is closed.

Another thing, and I don't know if this matters to you as it doesn't bother me a bit, but when you are driving and look in the rear view mirror, you can see the light strip.

Thanks, appreciate the info! I have thought about removing that trim piece and drilling holes for recessed LEDs and then tying into the same hatch circuit. This could be an easy fix to tide me over while I try to kill off this home remodel though...

No problemo. Just a word of advice for if you decide to put these in. The directions suck when it comes to sticking the 3M tape up there. All it says is wipe the area with the provided alcohol wipe and then peel and stick. WRONG!!!! I tried that. Didn't stick one bit. I would take a household cleaner and clean the area first. Then use the alcohol wipe. Peel the cover off the 3M adhesive and lay it out. Then get out your heat gun or hair dryer and heat the crap out of the 3M adhesive. Then slap it up there. You've got to work from the left to the right and push with the palm of your hand for about 30 seconds. Then move down the width of your palm each time until you get to the end.

Also, they don't tell you this either, but the sleeve where the wires go in the LED light strip must be on the outside. If you put it under the panel piece, it won't go back on. So what I did is I ran the wires and then snapped the side panel back on before I stuck the strip up there. Then you can make sure that the little sleeve butts right up to the space between the two panel pieces.

I finally got up the courage to pull my headlights apart and paint all that hideous chrome. Thanks to mtnbikr for the write up and pictures and answering all my questions before I pulled the trigger on this one.

I have to say, it looks freaking amazing. I haven't put them back together yet, still curing. But the individual pieces came out absolutely flawless.

Here's the before:

Everything all pulled out:

After I finally got the clear cover off:

Finished pieces:

Here's one of the orange reflectors with light shining on it. Probably went a bit too dark, but oh well:

I'll wait another 36 hours or so to put it all back together. I'll post the final pictures when I'm done.

Also installed the Subaru bumper guard. Don't know why I waited so long to get one of these.

Also got around to installing a rear view mirror mount for my radar detector and hard wire it to the rear view mirror.

So glad the red display matches all the red LEDs I have.

Well, after a few minor issues with the passenger side headlight leaking and shorting out the ballast for the HID lowbeams, I've had success. I baked the ballast a couple of times and took the headlight apart again to dry it all out. Finally got it all put back together today (hopefully leak free). Installed it and the light is back on!!!

Here are a couple of pics taken in my garage in the dark. Hard to get a good picture since everything is mirrored in the lens now that they are painted black.
