Re: '08 JDM Sti - Steep Driveway to Garage Ramp Solutions?

I am moving house this week, and the new house has a steep decline driveway into a flat basement garage, the angle between the two is too much to be able to drive my car over, so was thinking of getting ramps, either aluminium or making some wooden ones to help get my car in. Just wondering what other people use in this situation?

Re: '08 JDM Sti - EJ207 v7 | EFR7670 | Kelford 282's | Emtron KV8 | 480whp on Pump

ECU is back from Emtron, and refitted to the car, just waiting for a firmware update to come through to support the additional inputs. Once updated, car will go on the dyno, then should be ready to go. Hope to pick it up next week/weekend.

Picked up the car today. Or machine gun.. :D whatever you want to call it.

The oil cooler and New radiator worked perfectly on the 3 hour drive back, engine coolant temps were consistently lower and the oil pressure would go up when I pushed the car for a while showing the cooler is doing its job! It's quite hard to see its behind the left front fog light.

The IAG fuel rails are in and looking good.

Two days were spent tuning the closed loop lambda system which is working perfectly, much better cruising fuel economy and improved drivability from cold and all around.

Will have to do some logging on temps pushing the car hard for extended periods next week to see how effective everything is. But overall really pleased at this stage.

Re: '08 JDM Sti - EJ207 v7 | EFR7670 | Kelford 282's | Emtron KV8 | 480whp on Pump

Changed the filter today, was way too dirty, need to do it more often. Now my car can breathe! Still amazed by the difference the closed loop lambda makes to drivability and cold start, and so responsive.

Filter In

I think I need to make up some ducting through the fog light for the oil cooler and air filter.

Re: '08 JDM Sti - EJ207 v7 | EFR7670 | Kelford 282's | Emtron KV8 | 480whp on Pump

Some people recommend against mushroom filter for the exact reason and also they argue they don't filter as much as conventional filters.

However, you have reasonable reliability.
I don't mind having to replace it, the inserts are pretty cheap and for increased airflow with limited room it think it's good for me. Most of my issues have been oil related, which are well guarded against now. Apart from the further step of a dry sump, which I think is a bit excessive for its current use.

'08 JDM Sti - Emtron Logging

Did a brief log at lunch to see the new sensors lambda and oil temp being fed through to the ECU. Had to wait a few days for the new EMtune software to come through updated to work with the new Firmware update on my ECU. A lot of exciting Motorsport Features have been added as well as a whole load of tuning options. Just confirming the oil pressure is showing in PSI not kPa with the tuner, gauge confirms it, but want to make sure the sensor for the ECU isn't faulty. What other parameters should i be monitoring as i log?

'08 JDM Sti - VBOX Launch testing

Test launches on Medium boost 24 psi. Launch 6000rpm. Bogging a little bit. Doing some Emtron logging too. Really hard to find a flat road to do it on. Elevation change of 13 meters uphill. Maybe need to let down my tire pressure as I run around 40psi. This is the starting point for many more in the future. Will set up launch control and do a lot more testing and try high boost setting 29psi. Hope to get some runs at Flat Nats in September on the drag strip.

Racelogic PT shows I'm losing about 0.4 seconds changing from 1st to 2nd this could definitely be improved.

Emtron Log File, shows front wheels spin first briefly then the back as I tries to gain traction. So much data. Now to try use it all.

Re: '08 JDM Sti - Oil Cooler Pics.. Cable ties fix everything

I just found the spot to mount my Mishimoto oil cooler! I am doing an air duct on the fog light cover too so that spot will work out nicely. Nice build BTW!
Thanks! How are you going to approach the air duct on the fog light cover? I've looked at the APR fog covers but these seem quite expensive and I'm not sure they will fit with my intercooler piping.

'08 JDM Sti - Willall Racing / IAG Stage X - Much Want!!

OMG that's beautiful! Sleeved and closed deck! Is IAG building the block for Willall or is this something IAG is actually selling to the masses?
Full thread on it here. WREJBB Willall Racing Billet Block - NASIOC

Willall Racing is an Australian company that made the billet block in conjunction with IAG. Called a "Stage X" Block. Code Named: WREJBB

Re: '08 JDM Sti - EJ207 v7 | EFR7670 | Kelford 282's | Emtron KV8

Got a New warrant of fitness for another year!  Luckily my straight pipe CAT insert looks like an actual catalytic converter, they didn't notice the front crash beam was missing and a few gauges in technically the wrong places. :D So happy there was nothing to do!
Now have my ass covered from the police for modifications for another year.

Wow best DEI work I've ever seen! Need to do my inter-cooler Ike that!

Seriously nice :)

Re: '08 JDM Sti - Small Exhaust Leak? Gaskits maybe?

Tuners reply,

I don’t think that log is looking at injector duty cycle, says DI (digital input) If you bring up the log file and add injector PW (pulse width) for all 4 injectors you will see they are all the same apart from the small trims to cool some cylinders on high boost. Nothing in the logs stands out but need to know more on what the car is doing to know what to look for. Does it feel down on power? Its making the boost requested, and the closed loop boost isn’t adjusting much to maintain it so looks like the intercooler pipework doesn’t have leaks. There is no major ignition trims, knock trims, fuel mixtures are fine, and cams appear to be fine too. Could it have small exhaust leak making the noise? Possibly turbo base gasket, or up pipe gasket?

Sound does seem around the turbo area, so will likely have the gaskits checked. It doesn't seem down on power at all its just noisy on higher range of boost. Sounds a bit like the noise it was making when the exhaust manifold gaskit was leaking but it seems more around the turbo area.

Additional reply, will be trying this tonight.

There is a gasket in between the turbo and the up-pipe and this would be the most common one to blow. Easiest is to get someone to stab on and off the gas when the engine is running at idle quickly reving to 3-4000rpm and see if you can see an exhaust smoke or air movement from there. When it starts to get worse you may hear backfires around the area, and in the exhaust sometimes.

I would check the 4 turbo up-pipe/housing nuts are tight

Re: '08 JDM Sti - Tired Battery causing misfire

Found the most likely cause of the noise under high load, the battery is a year old and will go flat if the car is not used for a couple of days, so the assumption is that this is causing a misfire under high RPM/boost, this has happened before and the battery had to be replaced.

Going to get a better more powerful ODYSSEY battery (probably the PC680) this time, hopefully this fixes the issue again.

Still trying to find the small exhaust leak causing the noise when cold, so will continue to check all the exhaust bolts etc.. Will take to tuner if I cant find anything when I'm next going up there, and they can check the gas-kits and all the parts.

'08 JDM Sti - Not Battery, its the RH Exhaust Cam Solinoid

Battery didn't stop the noise at all under load, today car was super spluttery, did some logs and found the RH Exhaust Cam Solenoid is way off target, which I'm pretty sure was replaced last time on the dyno, so not sure whats going on here, but glad i have found something.

Re: '08 JDM Sti - Not Battery, its the RH Exhaust Cam Solinoid

I found the RH side Exhaust cam oil control valve solenoid is kaput :( I was hoping it was just an unplugged sensor cable, unfortunately not.

I have ordered a new one, apparently you can only get an entire assembly when you order them from Japan. (Car being a Jap import)

Should arrive this week, I'll get the local Subaru place to install (Just for ease of mind - really easy install) and hopefully this solves some if not all of my issues. I really should invest in some basic tools, eg torque wrenches etc..
