What an awesome toy:

Another pic of Subie. Not until this exact picture did it become obvious that I need some tail overlays:

No real updates, just a fresh wax. Right at 13,000 miles after 10 months of ownership. Knock on wood, no broken ringlands. Have decided to wait on downpipe and any further power add-ons until warranty runs out (we'll see how that goes), but will probably do short shifter, rally armor flaps, and some other minor tweaks in the meantime. Want it to last for the long haul, so nothing too crazy planned. Also, the wife decided she wants a 535i x-drive so let the saving begin haha.

Black Prova-Si knob ordered & installed

AEM intake ordered- pics to follow upon delivery. Stage 1 + AEM map soon to be loaded!
EDIT on 1.13.2012: Got a call 2 days after the order and the company was out of stock. Patiently shopped around and ordered from New Level Performance today. Brand new, no tax + discount code "WINTER" will get you an extra 10% off and free shipping for a grand total of $214 shipped. For a couple extra bucks I added the hydro-shield pre filter to give me more peace of mind in the rain.

11.5 months of ownership & 15,000 miles logged so far

New Prova knob:

Me & the 1 year old:

Also, I tried the seatbelt "trick" that I saw posted on here, and it worked! No more annoying chime while driving around on site at our different properties checking on tenants. Life-changing haha

This thread gives makes me so jealous. Just ordered my '12 DGM 5-door. First mod def gonna be tints, your car sells me on that (actually, first mod is mud flaps. They're ordered and will arrive a long time before the car). 2012 rims even match DGM. CAN'T WAIT!!!

Nice pics, very nice car.

Thanks for the positive feedback, I appreciate it!
You're going to love your hatch. Already looking forward to your journal.

Arrived a day early and was up late last night installing it. Fitment was perfect, love the dryflow "sock", and everything (except maybe for the silicone coupler) is great quality. It's much quieter than my old Cobb SF intake + box, but you can definitely tell a nice different over stock.

Hey jjhoagland,

I was wondering how you arranged the sub in the hatch. Do you also still have your cargo tray in there? Picking up my '12 in less than 2 weeks and driving it straight to appointments to get her tinted/clear bra'd and get the audio situation taken care of, and just was wondering how your sub is arranged.

I have a sealed box with 2 12" kenwoods and a 1200 watt amp in the trunk of my current ride (1.8T Jetta) and I have absolutely loved the sound(this jetta is a GLS and already has awesome speakers, so a head unit and subs was all I needed to round it out perfectly). I want to bring some of that with me to the new ride, but I have a couple of thoughts:

1: since this new car is a hatch, my current subs might be too big/loud since they're going to be right in the cabin with me, so maybe I should reconsider going with something smaller.

2: I don't want to bogart all of my storage space. After all, I got the hatch instead of the sedan chiefly for its utility by comparison.

I took a look at the 10" kicker option from Subaru and was only impressed by its small size and ease of removal. Other than that, it's too much $ for the sound. My 2x12" 1200watt setup was cheaper and kicks the piss out of the Subaru option. I'm not above being a bit spendy because I'm an audiophile, but I don't want to ignore value altogether.

So yeah, how do you have your single speaker set up? How much room does it take up? And finally, how easy is it to remove when you need to free up storage for whatever reason?

I'm sorry I'm battering you with questions. Thanks a LOT in advance for any info or advice that you have. Love your car and it has given me some ideas! Can't wait to be DGM Hatch brethren!

Jym,

Thanks for the kind words- congrats on getting yours delivered soon! VW does have a great sound system from the factory... my mom used to have a 1.8T Passat and the Monsoon stereo was a nice touch.

You'll probably be sorely disappointed with the factory speakers in the subie- a sub was a MUST for me. I have my single 12" sub in the back right corner of the hatch and have a bungee cord wrapped once around it and clipped to two of the existing points to keep it from rolling around. The amp is mounted to the back of the seat. The sub is extremely easy to remove when I'm hauling a ton of stuff, I just unplug the speaker wire and remove bungee and toss it in my garage. The roller cargo cover that the car comes with keeps it snug as well, and keeps people from being able to see that you have anything audio-wise.

I almost went with the under seat woofer, but got that new 12" sub, box, all wires, amp, bass knob, etc for $99 with free overnight shipping. Couldn't pass it up! I think your two 12s might be overkill in an open hatch, as I have the bass knob turned almost all the way down and it still kicks big time.

Post some pics when your DGM arrives!
