Update 1/8/2017 New Car!
This in my new MY97 L Wagon!

I picker her up with 64,XXX on the odometer this morning (1/8/17)! I bought this car with the intention of taking my other subie off the road for some much needed changes. That and DDing Pilot Supersports is expensive.

Also, I took the STI to the dealership and they were able to sort out the alignment.

Update 7/26/2017 Stuff
My grandfather is getting quite old and he was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. Because of this, he has decided it's time to give me his 1956 Ford Fairlane Club Sedan.

It looks in rough shape but all the pieces are there, there's minimal rust and it has the Thunderbird V8 option. This will become my new project for the foreseeable future which means I won't be spending too much time upgrading the STi. I will also lose a parking spot. All of this has led me to the conclusion that I should sell one of the cars.

I'm not selling the STi so that means the 97 has to go . With the 97 gone, I'll need a daily driver again so the STi will have to go back to daily service. I've listed the changes I want to make to the STi to make it the ultimate DD before the Fairlane is here.

- refresh spoiler
- Enkei RPF1 17x8 +45 in Gold
- Hankook Ventus S1 Noble2 245/45ZR17
- Tint Replaced
- Rain Visors
- thoroughly clean car
- new boost gauge and wideband
- Weathertech Floormats

It will be a while till I have the Fairlane here. I've got to schedule a mechanic to go out and get the car rolling again. Then get it on a trailer for the 1000 mile journey to Houston. It will go to a local mechanics shop to have the brakes and fuel system gone through, as well as a general tune up and inspection. So I have some time to figure out where everything is gonna go.

So that's my thought process right now. Don't really want to sell the 97, but not sure what else I'm going to do.

Update 8/9/2017 Exhaust and the Clunk

I'm further down the path to achieving daily driver status on the STi this morning. I swapped out the LiteSpec Titanium Exhaust for an X-Force system. Here are my quick notes on the swap:

Pro:
-lower rubble (Hz)
-lower volume (Db)
-cost effective
-seemingly well made

Cons:
-heavier
-slip joint.

I'm very happy so far based off first impressions. The exhaust is very cost effective and civilized. I would definitely recommend this exhaust to anyone looking for a low cost option.

I also finally found the clunk! I'm not sure if I had mentioned it in the journal thread but the was a clunking noise coming from my engine bay when i went over small bumps at low speed. I checked sway bar mounts, coilover nuts, ball joints, etc and could never find it. It finally dawned on me that it was probably the pitch stop. When the car was cool, I reached under the intercooler from the passenger side and gave the pitch stop a wiggle. Sure enough, it rattled away. After an hour or so, I also figured out how to tighten the lower mount (on the transmission) without removing the TMIC. It was not easy, but I'm happy to report that the rattle was gone this morning.

There's still much to do, but it's getting there.

- 2 exhaust hangers (lost 2 when I had the LiteSpec)
- body clips for undertray (seem to have fallen off the car
- oil change (Mobil1 full synth and Purolator PBL14615)
- Hella Sharptone to replace tired Supertones
- bring car in for Takata and air pump recalls
- refresh spoiler
- Tint Replaced
- Weathertech headlight protection
- Weathertech floormats
- Weathertech rain visors
- new boost gauge and wideband
- Enkei RPF1 17x8 +45 in Gold
- Dunlop Direzza 245/45R17
- thoroughly clean car

Switched out the Supertones for Sharptones last night. Dropped off at the dealership for recalls this morning.

Small Update

Oil changed at 61,000 miles with Mobil1 10w-30 and a Purolator PBL14615 BOSS Premium Oil Filter.

Recalls were done but now there is a really weird noise that comes from behind my dashboard from time to time. It sounds like something getting caught in a fan, but only happen intermittently and continues when I turn off the A/C and blower... ugh...

Update 1/18/2018 Screw DD, Back to Project Status

It's been a wild year and a half for me with buying a house, Hurricane Harvey and inheriting the Ford Fairlane, which has caused my plans to change around quite a lot. Fortunately, things are starting to settle down a little and I think I have a plan moving forward.

The STI will not become my daily driver as stated late last year. I've got plenty room after all and would like to to keep working on it without the risk of losing my DD. That being said, my DD will not be the 97 Impreza either. Recently, a family member was buying a new car and offered to sell me their 2010 Forester 2.5XT for a pretty good price. I picked it up last Friday with less than 60k on the odometer. Unfortunately, this does mean the Impreza is going up for sale. It's a great car, but I think the Fozy will be better.

I do plan on modifying Forester as well. The plan is to build the Forester as the ultimate DD. For now, that means stage 2. I also intend to move forward on the STI. A bigger turbo, and supporting mods are planned. Once the VF48 is out of the STI, it may find its way over to the Forester. Only time will tell.

Update 2/23/2018 Plan of Action

I think I've worked out a plan for what I want to do with the car. It will be done in a couple stages, some of them better defined than others, but I'm committed to getting this done. I've had this car for a long time now and I really want to "finish" what I started.

Planned
Maybe

Step 1: 350WHP
I want 350WHP out of the heartbreaker dyno at Enginelogics. The number may fluctuate a little once I get a hold of Brad and we put a plan of attack together, but 350 is my current goal.
  • Grimmspeed Up-Pipe
  • Grimmspeed HiFlow Manifold Crosspipe
  • Stock Location Turbo Upgrade - Cobb or Blouch probably
  • Turbo Inlet
  • Deatschwerks injectors
  • DW 300c fuel pump
  • boost gauge and wideband (Innovate Motorsports MTX)
  • Grimmspeed FMIC or Mishimoto FMIC

Step 2: Stopping Power
Cars gotta stop.
  • Stoptech rotors and pads
  • Grimmspeed Master Cylinder Brace
  • Stoptech SS Brake Lines

Step 3: Looks
This car looks good but it's time for a refresh and I'm looking to go big. Not sure if I want to downsize to 17s or stick with 18s on the wheels. I also haven't decided if I want to wrap the car in a new color, or get the paint repaired and the spoiler and new bumper sprayed.

I'm also thinking of putting some big yellow rally lights behind the lower mesh grille of the new bumper. It will depend on which intercooler methode I end up with.
  • fifteen52 Tarmacs
  • Chargespeed Type 1 Bumper
  • paint fix or wrap
  • Valenti Jewel LED tail lights (red/clear)

Really just need to decide on if I'm going with paint and paint correction or a wrap. If I go with a wrap, I'll need to pick a color.

Hopefully this weekend if the weather holds up. I've been slow to post it because I've been traveling a lot and the weather on the weekends has been awful when I have been here. As soon as I can clean the car up, it will be posted. I'll try to remember to PM you once it's listed and where I've listed it.

edit: you can PM me your contact info if you don't check you PMs too often.
