Default Passenger airbag recall questions

Well I just got the passenger air bag recall notice and I have a couple of questions if anyone did theirs already.

The notice says one hour and 36 minutes for the repair, guy I just set up the appointment with said 3-5 hours?? Any thoughts?

He says they have to take the dash apart, is this the case? I mean I have my power pack amp along with added wiring for audio etc that I would worry will just get stuffed back sloppy style when getting re assembled,

I don’t know I hate dealers and try to avoid them so I’m not liking the whole dash apart idea....

Has anyone taken their car in for the passenger bag replace? What was your experience?

Thanks in advance,

Disco.

My 05 was app an hour and a half. Didn't think they took the dash apart.

IMHO, to justify its' price, the S209 needs to perform at least as well as my moderately powered 05 built beater, and even that might not convince me to buy one cause my next STI isn't likely to be moderately powered.

I'm putting IAG back in here. Engine wise the car hase been trouble free for 56K. My STI is nearing the 60K minimum JJ led meto expect from a 2618 piston equipped block and it's still running strong.

That’s what I was figuring, I mean I would think this would be accessible through the glove as you can see the assembly when removed, I might just roll up there tomorrow and talk to an advisor dude on the phone sounded pretty clueless....

If it’s an hour or two cool but dropping it off for half the day seems extensive, and by the recall paperwork saying an hour and 36 min I would imagine that’s all Subaru is giving the dealer for labor..

Anyway......fricken takata!!!!

I mean pulling the dash apart to replace the passenger air bag seems pretty realistic on most cars. Something like that doesnt get done in 1.5hrs...

Now I'm wondering if I mine was just drivers side and I need to go back. I'll verify and note here.

On the GD it is a 90-120 minute affair.

On the GR, since there is no airbag panel on the dash, it is easily a 6-8 hour job. The whole dash has to come out for them to access it. My service guys have done a fair share and rarely get the GR job done under 8.

Well I just looked behind the glove to get a leaf out of my fan that was making noise and yea, no access to anything. Just hoping they can tilt the dash out enough to do what they have to do without needing to take my cluster out, I’ve got my vent pod and cluster gauges wired amongst other stuff. Pondered taking it all out but I just don’t have time oh well crossing my fingers will update how long it takes etc.

Thanks for the responses guys, I almost wish they would just let me do it but I understand it needs to get in the system as done to clear the recall on the VIN....
