Default Opinion: Dual catch can setup on my 2011 UK Type.

Hello all,

I am sure this already has been discussed before but since my STI is EUDM model the PCV system looks quite different to the US model (actually, it is simpler than US model).

So anyway here is the OEM setup:

The crankcase port has a T (or Y) joint, and 1/2 inch hose goes to the turbo inlet and 5/8 inch hose goes to the PCV check valve under the throttle body. I am not sure what's inside the the T joint, but I think it is just an ordinary T...

So i figured, the simplest way to do this is as follow:

One of the return port on the turbo inlet will be blocked off so only 1 hose will return back to the turbo inlet.

Will this work? All I am thinking of doing is add catch can before the return line and not changing the way OEM system work.

2012 usdm sti hatch I used a Cusco catch can for the pcv and just copied the moroso routing and a beatrush catch can for a 2015 MY for the head breathers.

So you use cusco catch can between the crankcase port and the pcv under the throttle body?

Yes sir I bought it from ebay so not sure if its authentic but looks real and its originally for mostly Honda I think but its a 9mm catch can. I ended upgrading to 6AN push lock style fitting for the hoses because the clear one got hard real quick and started leaking. After 7 months tmic is still clean when i took it out to get an iat bung for speed density tune.

I'd like to hear more about the application and setup before making a recommendation. What you've sketched is what most have done since the early 2000s, which is fine for many things... not all.

Can location and even line layout can have an effect on performance depending on the application.

Hello.

It is just for daily driver, with occasional track day about couple times of year for fun. Nothing competitive. What i think can cause an issue is the distance of the catch can. The oem hose between the pcv and crankcase is very short while I am thinking of placing the can on the battery.

Now that I think about it, won't the layout be better if it is as below?

Well, I got it installed and all are well. The fuel trims and boost are spot on so that's good.

The catch can is based on Mishimoto dual catch can kit, but just about the only thing I kept are the cans itself and the bracket. Everything else are replaced for, uh, the appropriate parts to do the job.

3-port can for crankcase and heads on front right.

2-port can for crankcase to manifold at battery holder on the left.

So the layout goes like this:

I have to use the OEM 90 hose but clock around and use brass coupler to join the returning hose from catch can. There is a metal pipe underneath the PCV checkvalve and there's probably no more than 2mm gap between it and the pcv checkvalve.

And the cans are hidden below the intake duct and battery cover.

And after a day of driving around I checked the can that supposed to capture blow by during vacuum:it works!

You don't want the cans low. On track under the right conditions you can start syphoning oil into the can, which is very bad.
