Yes, and there are hundreds of threads that cover that.

This is about a C.A.R.B. legal 400 hp kit.

I may be able to accomplish this with just one cat.

My state (NC) doesn't care about CARB, but they do look for the same number of cats as stock. No one makes a high flow two cat dp.

I guess I made the assumption that a CARB certification worked similarly. If that's not a part of CARB then disregard my previous post.

Number of cats are not relevant for certification...bump

I think the "kits" are a great idea. However, I live in the SoCal and am pretty sure that as soon as you touch the downpipe on our cars, then you will not pass smog. Even if you put in a high flow cat that passes the emissions test, it will still fail the visual portion. I don't think many, if any, other states have that strict of rules. So it sucks for us and no matter what no kit in the world could be fully legal here. Most people just deal with slapping on the factory downpipe and then taking to get tested every two years.

How about this...

Stage 2 Kit:
- Handheld Tuning device of some sort with map support
- Downpipe (high flow cat/catless option)
- optional intake
- optional catback

Stage 2 + Kit:
- Everything in Stage 2 kit
- Intercooler upgrade (FM / TM option)
- Fuel Pump
- 3 port EBCS
- optional one step colder plugs

oh and maybe some larger injectors as another option to squeeze more power, but I think that is about as far as you can go with the stock turbo and not have to worry too much about engine internals.

I don't plan on going any further than this with my car. So I won't comment on the 400hp+ kit.

Default 400whp 50-State legal turbo kit!!???

If two cats are just visual then you just need a second bump in the pipe. Can't imagine there aren't people doing this now. not that it helps, but if you pass emissions no one should care anyway.

The reason you'd fail smog for visual is because you're talking about cats that don't have an E.O. (executive order) excluding them from failing the visual test. If you have an E.O. it would not be a problem. With this kit you'd pass smog easily. The test I have to go through to certify the kit is a ridiculous version of the smog test you're used to. If I can pass that test I assure you you'll never have a problem passing smog.

One of the reasons I want to create a kit is so I wouldn't have to take anything off and put it back on for smog tests. I'm a busy man and swapping parts is a waste time.

All this environmentalist BS of instituting the need for catalytic converters in ALL cars are oblivious to one MAJOR reason for not having catalytic converters:
