That's a lot of force on the side of the hood, if it's pushing up on the side enough to cause a gap! Between forcing the sides of the hood up, and pushing the front of the hood down to latch... I do not feel comfortable with doing that at all. CF is brittle and does not give any warning signs prior to failure, resulting in catastrophic failure....

honestly id just get rid of the dampers and put some hood locks on. or, what you could do is leave the ten mm bolt loose on the hood, and have the prop unnattached...when you need to leave the hood open, just install the bolt by hand

A buddy of mind did this. You could tell where the damper bounced around and scratches up the paint.

Ok, I take that back. Consider this problem SOLVED. On a whim I went into the garage and reinstalled both stock dampers. The first time I tried to close the hood was a bit.. unnerving. The initial foot of movement requires a bit more force than OEM. HOWEVER, that being said, once the CF hood is past the first foot or so of movement, the stock dampers do not push up against the hood very much at all, due to the triangulation. The trick is to SLOWLY close the hood for the first foot or so of movement.

I'm so glad I don't have to buy some overpriced dampers.

Also, my Seibon fits just like it did w/o the dampers. If yours have some added gap, it may be some other issue?

I've been running this combination for almost a year. No issues.

This is true. I'm also running the Seibon CF fenders. So, that could be where the larger gap is coming from. Here's the alignment of mine:

Still looking for a solution to this prob. I installed my seibon CF hood yesterday. The OEM dampers seem to work ok, but there is a slightly larger gap on one side.
Also dies anyone know if I need to have the entire hood covered with a clear bra? I read on here somewhere that it will fade if we don't clear bra the whole hood.

Resurrecting this. With my Seibon CF hood installed and my hood pins unlocked (no OEM latch right now) the hood isn't even being pushed on by my stock dampers. I can lower it down and let go of it without setting the Aerocatch latches and it will stay if I take my hand off. Not sure what the difference is, but it is definitely not an issue on my car.

Interestingly enough, I just talked to my body shop yesterday, and the manager told me the techs are only atttaching one dampner to my Seibon CW hood, because with two dampners it throws the alignment off, wierd.

I would figure with only one it woud be off, but he said one works okay...

I guess I'll find out how it looks next week.

I'm really curious how hard it would be to custom fab up some alternative method/dampners.

Wet carbon GR hoods are about 20 lbs. Stock is about 48 lbs.
