I would like to own a 2009 - 2012 model year Impreza 2.5i Hatchback (I heard that the'08 model is crappy). I will mostly use it as a daily driver, but I'd like to do some pulls at green lights and occasional night drifts (at a 90° corner, not full on street drifting). The engine and trans has to hold up to those conditions. I briefly considered the WRX (STi is overkill), but the WRX drinks too much fuel for my liking and costs a lot.

Nope.

You could pull the ebrake coming into a corner... but you'd just come to a stop sideways then get going again. That car just doesn't have the power to keep the tires spinning. Probably doesn't even have 1/4th of the power needed considering it's AWD.

As far as reliability... motor would be fine with the attempts. Trans too. But your diffs would probably be shot pretty quickly.

If you want a Subaru drift car, you could get a BRZ. With those skinny stock tires, it'll break loose pretty easily.

AWD and tarmac drifts are an expensive combo.
