Default Boost_Addiction's 05 STI Refresh

What's up IWSTI? Been a member here but I don't really post a whole lot. This will probably have a lot happening over the next 2-4 months. Here's a quick rundown and the plan.

2005 WRB STI
145k on the clock with original engine/suspension

Current mods:
-TurboXS turboback exhaust (previous owner)
-Tuned with TurboXS UTEC (previous owner)
-Kartboy short shifter

So really...it's a fairly stock car. Haven't had a lot of time or money to do anything to it with buying a house and medical bills for my kid. However, the engine is kind of on its last leg, and has been for a while. Here's a list of the major issues:

-Currently burns about a quart of oil per month
-Random smoking when at a stop coming from the hood scoop. Smells inside the car frequently. Very random.
-Fuel smell when it's really cold out (doesn't happen in the summer)
-Clutch slips really bad (3rd-6th)
-3 of the 4 struts have leaked and the ride is quite frankly, pretty crummy

So you may ask, "What's the plan?". Well, I'm not an idiot when it comes to cars. I come from a Honda background and have done pretty much everything there is to do except disassembly a tranny. That said, I don't really have the time, or space, or IMO, the proper tools to do the job to the level I expect of myself. So for the motor rebuild, I'm going to be letting it up to Agile Auto Performance in MD. I know IAG is there and I have had nothing but good experiences with them, but for a few reasons, I've chosen to not go with them (if you'd like more info, PM me). The guys at Agile have been awesome to talk to and from everything I've read, they seem to do a great job. Here's a quick rundown of the scope for the motor:

Machine the block
Manley rods
Manley pistons
KillerB pickup
Refurbish the heads
Protune with the AP V3

I do also have some concern that my turbo is going kablooey so a Blouch 20g (or something in that realm) and ID 1050s might be in the scope too. This will have to wait until it's disassembled.

Additional work that I'm doing before going to Agile (hopefully by February):
Dual catch cans (in progress)
Universal Mishimoto FMIC with custom bumper beam/bracing (in progress)
Welding intercooler piping (in progress)
AEM 320lph fuel pump (complete)

When I get the car back, I plan on replacing all of the bushings under the car and getting some sort of coilovers (TBD)

I'd like to get into some more AutoX events and maybe a track day here and there.

Alright guys and gals...I think that about does it for the first post. Any tips/questions, let me hear it.

Here's a few more pics of how it's pretty much been for the past 4 or 5 years.

And if anyone is wondering, here's going to be the daily for the next couple of weeks.

First things first. Told the boss I'd clean the cars. Nothing fancy, just wash/wax. Come spring, I do think I'll do full details on both of them and re-coat them. Currently they both have Opti-coat. But it's been a while and I think it's time for a new coating.

Did the fuel pump. Had my helper out there. Gotta learn em young. Took two days because my kid ran off with it and hid it in my detailing cabinet. Needless to say, the house smelled like gas for a day.

Here's just a picture or two of the IC and some other parts I've gathered so far.

Also is anyone else creeped out by oranges?

Here's the current progress on the front bumper beam. Idea is to add another horizontal brace on the lowest bolt, then tie that in to the rest of the bracing. Then most likely, space permitting, add a hoop that will go in front of the intercooler (kind of where the foam goes on the existing beam).

I know it may not fully replace the OEM beam, but I'm also not keen on installing some of these beams I see from companies. Nothing against them but having access to a welder makes it a fairly easy decision for me to go with something more robust. Again, it probably wont save the car if I'm in an accident, but if it can possibly help keep my kid safe, well that's worth $100 or so in steel to do so.

Should be finishing up the beam this weekend, and ideally get the IC piping welded as well. Then I'll paint the beam and put it on the car.

Didn't get a whole lot done as my wife was at a meeting until 9 or so. Decided I'd go ahead and cut the bumper up some for fitting the IC this weekend...which I didn't get to. I did remove the old hardware from the bumper that was left (and rusty) from the first lip that got ripped off when we had some flooding. New lip is in the garage.

I did also get to use my Dr. Colorchip kit that's been sitting around. Kind of hard to tell being inside but it does look a lot better. If you have any detailing questions or want more info on the kit, let me know. I used to detail through college and still do it occasionally on the side.

Lastly, when i had the bumper off, I noticed my passenger side was missing this bracket. Does anyone know if this is the "left" or "right" side that I'll need?

Yea i had one on the drivers side. The STI specific "skirt" according to the parts diagram (#14), hasnt been sitting flush with the my bumper for a while. I'm guessing this is why. I'll grab a better picture tonight.
