I know 9.5 is close enough and all I need until the car goes wider, if it does.

(it will)

I'm thinking next year, as I'll need new wheels, again. I don't know if I can even get any good wide/low offset 5x100 wheels, but I have yet to really look. I'm not sure what to do for the winter yet either. I'd like to find another subaru as a winter beater, like a GC or GF. At the same time I have to keep money in the bank in case this motor finally pops.

I think I'm gonna hold off on the e85 shenanigans for a little while. It just isn't worth it unless I can DD it with e85. The station is too far away for that though. The car has plenty of power, I just have stupid random urges for more I really need to focus on my driving if I want to go faster anyway.

I'm still in the process of doing my clutch. The new clutch and flywheel are in along with the transmission. I just have to do all of the other small things. I couldn't work on it all of last week due to various reasons. Long story short, a dog (great dane mix) tried to rip my hand off. It screwed my wrist up pretty bad but it's back to normal. Back to work!

I checked out my drive shaft last night since it's still out of the car. This is what I found. Crank up your volume!

https://www.youtube.com/v/6PU6NeoUkLA

I have two bad u-joints, this one being the worst. I can safely say that this is the source of my mystery howling sound. It may also explain why my rear diff was getting so hot, since the really bad u-joint is bolted right to the pinion shaft of the diff. Probably not, but it's possible. Since subaru doesn't like making drive shafts with normal replaceable joints, I only saw one option (I'm in SM afterall ). Driveshaft shop carbon fiber unit on the way! This car is going to feel totally different. Beatrush motor mounts, new HD clutch and a one piece drive shaft. Shit's gettin serious.

So in your video, I really did not see that the u-joint is bad as you moved it in its normal motion. Appeared to be slightly stiff, but that is not going to contribute to rear diff operating temperature. Apply a twisting force if you get the time to redo the video. It seemed to me that you were hitting it against the driveshaft. (for your background - I spent 3 years evaluating warranty driveshaft/differential return parts for a major manufacturer)
