Default Re: yamahaSHO is back on track!

Got a little work done on the car today. My buddy helped me remove the bumper cover and stock bumper and install the Oswald rear bumper. The install was pretty easy, although the directions tell you to drill out two rivets, but we found after removing one, you did not have to drill them out... Nor were they actual rivets.

Since having the bumper removed gave easy access to the exhaust tip, I took a few mintues with my Powerball and some polish, then a wax.

Everything fits nice, but we didn't get to put the car back together as my buddy who was helping me received a phone call that his very clean WRX limited just sat through a hail storm, so we took the drive to his place to check it out. Sadly, that car took a lot of damage.

Thanks. It was depressing to see what happened to his car when days earlier it looked like this:

Then this (best pic I got with my phone):

This doesn't really show how bad it is as almost every panel had lots of nasty dents. I think the estimate to repair is almost $7k, but they say that when it's done being repaired, you'd never know it happened. At least it's getting lots of new panels and some fresh paint.

We had a storm like that roll through Oklahoma City last year. There were quite a few cars caught out in it...and unfortunately quite a few nicely built ones, too.

Default Re: yamahaSHO - Took apart my new 20G? :)

I just removed the exhaust housing on my 20G and am sending it in to SwainTech for coating. I'm trying to keep heat under control since I am sticking with a TMIC. I'll likely coat everything else (exhaust manifolds and downpipe) with a local ceramic shop. The up pipe will be already coated from Grimmspeed, but I'm thinking of SwainTech for the dump tube as I'd like to keep the heat away from my axle.

Default Re: yamahaSHO - Took apart my new 20G? :)

Here shortly I'm going to start installig some more parts. I am currently waiting on some parts to put the rear back together. I found a goof Subaru made with the passenger tail light gasket which didn't allow it to seal. Luckily it was on the bottom of the light so it never leaked.

I also found whoever installed the rear sway bar before me removed the charcoal canister and stripped the threads on stud towards the front of the car and partiall stripped on of the studs on the back. The studs on the back are cheap and easy replacments... The one towards the front is part of a $40 bracket.

With all that said, I have some gaskets in the mail, as well as some studs and a bracket coming. I took a look at my spare Subaru bolts collection from this car and since I have replaced every bolt, nut, and plastic clip that I've taken apart, I've got a pretty good collection going!

I also figured it would be nice to work in a clean garage, so I sprayed it out and attacked it with a mop.
