Default So my airbags will stop working if I get different seats? WTF?

I keep seeing people talking about airbags not working with aftermarket seats, what's the deal with this? I want to get different seats, but there is no way I will do it if my airbags won't work.

Can someone here with knowledge of this please clarify this for me?

Thanks

The seats have the airbags in them. So if you remove them, they will not work.

Oh wow, I didn't realize the airbags were IN the seats, I thought the airbags were in the side curtain/seatbelt area.

Thanks for the info.

if you replace the seats, the airbag light will come on. if the airbag light comes on, none of the airbags will deploy. so you'd have to get a fix for the airbag sensor (which isn't that hard i don't think).

Use a multimeter to measure the resistance between the pins on the connector to the seat and buy an appropriate resistor.

I personally don't mess with anything that deals with the airbags. Think of the hassle you would get if you got into a serious accident and the insurance company doesn't wish to cover you because of "airbag" modification. You insure the vehicle with the understanding that the airbags are there. Of course you could go to them and tell them that you turned them off, but I bet that they will increase your rates.

Very good point.

I'm definitely not going to change out my seats, i'll just bolster them with foam like in that other thread.

Someone that is very comfortable with electronics will disagree.
