Default Laptop Cable?

So i managed to get windows running on my mac, and access tuner running in my windows install - now i need to connect my ECU to my laptop.

which cable can i use to do this? Need OBDII -> USB ?

OBD II -> AP -> Computer..

this is likely to use the ELM chip. Which a phone or computer does not have.

but then i have to wonder how the ECUTek and opensource tools work? there must be an ELM chip in that tatronix cable?
