STORY:

My name is Idin (pronounced like Eye-din).

I always knew Imprezas through the original Legacy and GC Impreza 555 rally cars but my favourite car was Lancia Delta Integrale HFs. That was until I started semi competitive PC rally gaming and came across THE blue car with a different sound :)

It had some understeer but lift off and left foot braking was almost magical and soon it was my favourite car...

Long story short, I have a 2002 genuine bugeye STI. Two years ago I bought a GR white hatch but ended up cancelling the order as

1-The bug "felt" better as more involving and analogue. Almost a nice hybrid between GC and GD having good attributes of each: raw and feelsome gc and chassis rigidity of GD, noting the little fanboy within :)

2- The dealer took too damn long to deliver.

GOAL:

My interpretation of a STI GT3 RS.

Update:

Testing at Philip Island (high speed flowing track relatively close to SMP).

We were hit by rain from first session. Low grip surface, sliding car everywhere was an interesting experience.

Dry session lasted literally 3 laps. Enough to get valuable data.
I was hoping that I can get atleast 5 quick laps to load the chassis and get used to pushing the car again but heavy rain followed by hail storm meant we have to pack up and go early.

Thankful to GIR team as usual and specially Aleck this time, despite all the pressure I was given priority to get the car running. You would argue it was running. So obviously a lot of things happened that are "secret development" haha.

We have a few things to do before WTAC and I just wished I could do some quick laps in a high speed track beforehand.

Now destroker motor:
First of all where old 2.5l from an old supplier would gently lift the head at anything above 25pounds, P2P block is rock solid at 30 and plus.

It sounds like a 2.5 just smoother. You notice the shorter stroke with a slightly later spool and less tq so you need to be spot on with your driving.
At 6200 where the 2.5l was starting to slow down gradually this thing goes full manic till redline.

Had asymmetrical brake lock up again. Including one at well over 250km/h. I want a Bosch ABS bad.

Update, car hit the dyno in the last two days, testing multiple new and secret strategies.

I was there on Sat when tune was finalized.
Can not thank GIR enough.

Also can not thank P2P racing enough. We well and truly tested his block and I assure you, majority of community will never ever push it as much as we have. Rock solid block atleast as good as ANY other vendor our there.

New injectors, new WG. Powertrain is done and this is what we will bring to wtac 2019.

Now we are updating few other elements of the car over next few weeks.

Car is ready and GIR have done an amazing job. Now I need to get the best out of it on the day. Product Transport Machine Room Building

Ladies and gentlemen.

Car is done and is ready to battle so is the driver.

Cant wait to show you the rest of the car. But I assure you we have superseded the legendary hyperlemon as the best bugeye ta car.

Improvements to engine, gearbox, differential, cooling, aero. It may not look that different from outside but I assure you a tonne of work was done by GIR.

As usual, there is a long list of good people who made this possible from friends, family, GIR to supporters and sponsors. This would not have happened without your help and support.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!

I will fly tomorrow midday, meet GIR troops early Thursday am.

Update:

AVCS solenoid failed on right side. Massive detonation in right bank on my first serious lap. Shut it down immediately. Block is ok but obviously needs to be looked at properly.

We were prepared enough to build a few extra TBAGs there if we needed. However we decided not to:

We only do things in a precise and scientific way.
We would only take the risk if I was on P1 pace immediately which I wasn't. As such, no need a destroy such a nice engine.
We knew day 2 will be hotter and I was not confident I can do a special lap.

Massive thanks to GIR team who worked tirelessly. As usual astonishingly quick and accurate with quick diagnosis and fixes.
Massive thanks to P2P racing. Atleast as good as ANY OTHER builders. If not better.

I am so proud of our team, myself, GIR team, Ryan and everybody else involved in the project.
We worked hard and in perfect harmony making quick and correct decisions together.
Ultimately, it was not our day due to an unusual failure and me taking too much time to get on pace. On paper we had all the ingredients for something special.

Next:
Time to rest and relax for a while. We worked under stress for months.
Recoup and recover and when we feel the thrill of chasing something worthy or just want to have fun with like minded positive racers we come out.

Relax, recharge and if the feel is right give it another go. Interesting to follow the Subaru teams competing at this event. Jealous of the US group that made it over to witness in person this year as I was supposed to be one. Look forward to whatever direction you decide in the future. Always look forward to what you share of your experience.
