The HKS turbo (65mm compressor & 56mm turbine) appears to be similar to the one used on the STI TC 380. It used the HKS GT III RS turbocharger found in the STI Sports Turbine kit (part # 11004-AF013). The S209 probably uses a similar turbo. It's a journal bearing turbo and obviously single scroll.

It could definitely benefit from an aftermarket downpipe. I believe the JDM version is twin scroll and their downpipe has a single cat which would help improve the spool.
Hmmm, yes. It looks like the turbo could use a bigger downpipe.

The HKS GT III RS is a single scroll with twin-entry housing to allow it to mate with the JDM twin-scroll exhaust manifold. This turbo is the one found in TC380 and is the replacement for the HKS GT2835 turbo.

While not apple to apple, the Yashio Factory’s C-SER STI green hatch uses the HKS GT2835 to boost their EJ207 and later Cosworth EJ257. Looks pretty ballistic once its on the EJ257. And yet the GT III turbo is supposed to be better as it helps the low-mid power area.

The graphs show that the torque comes on 500+ RPM later with the larger HKS turbo and holds power better up top. It clearly doesn't make peak torque at 3,600 rpm like Subaru claims.. more like 4,700 rpm.
Waw, the RA’s curve looks nice. Is it standard?

I believe so. The tune on the Type RA and 19+ STI has greatly improved.

The curve's shape is similar to Cobb's graph for the Type RA/19+ STI.

Stock tune vs Cobb Stage 1 on 93:

And here's a stock Type RA dyno on California's crappy 91. Stock tune vs stage 1 protune.

Here's a video of a Type RA dyno with a comparison to a '18 STI. Although, I think these numbers are a bit high as well.

My guess is the people that first dyno their rare new cars like to manipulate the parameters a bit to inflate their numbers

The suspicious thing about the Type RA vs S209 comparison is that in every dyno above for the Type RA, the stock peak horsepower & torque figures are nearly identical (horsepower is within 5-10 of the torque figure).

However, in Six Star Service & Fabrication's comparison, the Type RA's peak horsepower is nearly 30 lower than its torque figure (~285 lb-ft vs 255 whp)? Their peak torque figure aligns with the typical Type RA & 19+ STI dynos that I've seen, however, their horsepower # is much lower. The torque starts falling off earlier and more drastically.

The S209 at ~310 whp & the Type RA/19+ STI at ~280 whp would make much more sense given the 30 hp rating difference by Subaru (341 vs 310 hp).

I still can't get over the lag on the S209's dyno. Subaru claims peak torque at 3,600 rpm and it's not even close. They also claimed the S209 makes an additional 40 lb-ft of torque over the STI.. which isn't the case in this comparison.

Maybe the RA is tuned hence more torque at earlier rpm which nets higher max torque vs the max hp?

Sti S209: 313whp/293wtq
Sti Type RA: 257whp/284wtq
2018 Sti: 252whp/256wtq

Compared to previous generations of sti like GR/GV (225whp stock) these are pretty solid numbers from the S209. Still not enough to warrant the price tag in my opinion lol. I also wonder what kind of dyno was used. We also have to keep in mind that these numbers on the S209 are being produced at 19psi of boost and not the usual 14.5psi.

They didn't claim that the Type RA was tuned, but the numbers would make more sense that way.

..that would put the S209 at around 380 crank hp, similar to the TC 380. That should put the S209 at least in the low 4s 0-60 mph and well into the 12s in the 1/4 mile.

The turbo inlet is another $1500.. (ST14459VL000)
Any USDM part number for the 10mm pink springs?
