Though I might drive an STI stock till it was out of warranty but I will never buy one planning to leave it stock permanently. I was hoping to talk my wife into driving one for three years under warranty and then give it to me. Good possibility I'll pick up a 16+ in a year or two build and bump it over 500 on flex fuel. Course it will get suspension too . . .

What would make me drool in a new STI platform? 6 Cyl, 3.0L+ twin turbo - preferably with a dry sump! Yeah I know i ought to be looking at other mfgs.

I 'll never see it so I'll build. I'll keep the AWD. I'll get the power I want. I'll get the handing I want. I'll settle for and AOS

I agree that my setup is quite simple and should not be an issue. To be clear, the car is a daily driver with spirited mountain driving. My tuning goals were 1st and foremost for reliability and driveability + taking advantage of the new hardware to get better response and some power.

For me, the biggest complaints are the harsh on/off throttle and what seem to be holes or flat spots in the 2500-4000 RPM range at anything other that WOT punching through the gears. It just does not have a linear feeling under conservative to moderate acceleration in normal driving situations. I will give it at least a week for learning to complete, and then I will go back and talk to Mike about my concerns.

It's really on me to do that, and also on me that I decided to go back for my re-tune. It's hard to overlook his experience and reputation, but his specialty is building and tuning race cars, which mine is not.

So many go on and on about custom tunes being such a light switch for their cars, but I have yet to experience that.

I would go to EQ Tuning in Fairfield. Not even comparable...

I know many people who made the switch.

Make sure to ask your tuner to adjust the throttle mapping and make it more linear. I had my tuner to do that to all three modes and it is so much better to drive like a normal car should.

Brenspeed, Ron Watson and Phat Botti all verbally told me I’d get expected numbers similar to my first post going with them ..either tune only or intake and tune only.

I met up with a guy intake and tune only by etune with Brenspeed and he later dyno’d it and made 266/283 he sent that info back for a revision and had some fueling adjustments made. He didn’t re-dyno it since he was e-tuning but a 5-7hp gain on each number would be fair to assume.

I’m going this etune route first with just a drop in filter. I’ll add a catted DP in the spring and intake if I want more and get it retuned.

(One other choice is the canned OTS MAP performance tune for $75 which I might try next week just for shits and giggles).

If I can find a dyno shop with fair prices and SAE numbers I might do dyno runs for Cobb OTS stage 1, MAP OTS stage 1 and Bren’s E-tune. Should be interesting.

seriously, the MAP tune is really impressive. GO for all choices, and see which feels best to you.

I can definitely tell you Cobb Stage 1 vs MAP is not even in the same ballpark.

For $75, you will not get better results.

No I didn’t. I will the next time I make that trip though. I didn’t know it was that far off if that’s what you were insinuating. I get paid mileage so I don’t care, but will do so now you mention it.

Yep, mine was off by 8% before I adjusted it.
