Default fuel pump running after shutdown?

Has anyone else noticed what sounds like the fuel pump running after turning the car off? I've noticed it twice now, both times I started and turned off then it stopped (only noticed it in the garage where it's quiet, maybe it's happened more but didn't notice outside. Also I'm not 100% sure that's what it is, just seems like the right location and sound...

I hear it also and assumed it was FP. Maybe 1-2 seconds after key off.

This just came up a few weeks ago but I'm not finding the thread. Guy's car was making noises while it was sitting in the garage. IIRC it was the fuel pump running at random times but was deemed normal.

Hmmm that sounds like what mine was doing, and I don't see how it's normal. I'll watch it close and try to catch an audio clip of it...

my 2012 has been doing this since day 1. Definitely sounds like its in the general area of the FP but I cant be sure. My conclusion is that my car is pleasuring itself when it thinks no one is looking.

<--- Same here. It's driven me nuts on more than one occasion. Car is parked for a few hours. I happen to pass through the garage and hear buzzing. I'm not certain it's the fuel pump, but maybe it is. I'm big on conspiracy theories so it's more likely Subaru sending data to big brother about all my naughty behavior, for which I'll be judged for later in life

Actually, it's us in the Colorado STi Contingency Group, mining your car for secret Killer Bee tweaks.

We inadvertently also downloaded the naughty behavior evidence and will not wait until later in life to judge.

Again, my memory is bad but I think it had something to do with venting pressure or moisture out of the fuel system.

You are probably hearing the EVAP system test. In a quiet garage you can hear the pump pressurizing the tank (and sometimes popping sounds as well) to verify that there aren't any leaks. If you don't screw the gas cap back on tight this is the system that triggers the CEL.

Usually I hear it several hours after shutting the car off if I happen to go in the garage when it's going on. If you hear it immediately after shutting the car off, it probably isn't EVAP.

The owner's manual mentions a possibly similar noise as being normal.
