Default 2016 STI: Now with more Turbo!

On July 17, 2015 I purchased a 2016 DGM STI. I had been in the Subaru family before with a 2004 platinum silver metallic WRX. I loved that car, and owned it for over four years. I don't really even remember exactly why, but for some reason I traded it in. One of the dumbest things I can remember ever doing.

Edited: this Subaru has come a long way in a short 6 months of ownership and only 3k miles. Went stage 3 at 2600 miles and am enjoying this vehicle a lot. I am not nearly as skilled of a mechanic as others on this site, but I am trying to do as much as possible on my own.

At 4K Miles I purchased the Cobb flex fuel kit and killer b header. Had them installed and pro tuned at Turn in Concepts. At about 6k miles I had it retuned by BrenTuning and went ahead and added a Process West TMIC.

Then at 8500 miles I upgraded the factory VF48 to the Cobb 20g turbo. Haven't ran it on a dyno, but if I can find one near me, i'd like to.

This thread will show some of the items I have already done, and hopefully things I will do. I hope you all enjoy the car and pictures.

How the the car sits in August 2016:

Default Re: My 2016 DGM STI

I did this a few weeks ago, but I just got around to uploading the photos. The car is dirty, but I wanted to show the difference the 25mm spacers made. I was worried the front would rub, but I haven't had any issues so far.

Default Cobb Stage 3 and Issues

I ordered the Cobb Stage 3 kit right after Thanksgiving. Without going into too much detail, the whole process was very stressful. Cobb sent my packages, UPS lost a package, UPS found the package, Cobb had not put random pieces into the package, etc. After a few days, I went ahead with the installation (which was also quite stressful).

Laying out some of the pieces:

I installed everything alone or with the help of my dad. Just being honest, but installation was a PITA! More than a few times I found myself stopping in the middle of removing vital pieces of the motor and asking myself, "Why am I doing this to a brand new car?" The obvious answer is I am a moron who does not value money. Moving on....

The whole process took a lot longer than I originally thought it would (not the first time nor last time I will say this). Fuel injectors took about 6 hours (first time ever doing it so others may be a lot quicker). Fuel pump took about 90 minutes. Fuel Pressure Regulator took about 2 hours.

Downpipes took way longer than it should have. I had trouble breaking the bolt on top of the turbo closest to the passenger side. The turbo sits back a little behind the windshield/hood line up top, so I was nervous to use various extensions, flex heads, etc. I psyched myself out because I was worried about rounding the bolt. After trying for about an hour, I decided to spray it with WD-40 and give it a half hour. Came back out after 15 minutes (I am impatient), and found I could unscrew it with my fingers. Another 15 minutes and I had the new Cobb unit on.

So right now I am running Cobb Stage 3 OTS 93 map. I don't have a catback on it since that was on backorder, but I don't care. The car sounds a lot meaner with the downpipes anyway, and I don't think our exhaust system is too bad from the factory.

The car feels a lot stronger now, and I am really enjoying it. This is how the car should have came from the factory in my opinion. I took a lot of pictures during the installation, but they were mostly for me to remember where wires went and how things were tucked away. I don't think they are probably enjoyable to look at so I left them off the post.

p.s.
I did install the Perrin pitch stop mount, but not the lava blanket form the photo.

I'm jelly. I wanted stage 3, but I truly just kinda am over the car scene & tinnitus in my right ear isn't getting any better.

But I still love to drive.

Enjoy the STi!

Thanks, guys.

I don't live with my dad. I am married with children. Anytime I work on cars I try to get my dad involved because he loves them. We did everything together on the 2004 WRX so I couldn't think of a better person to have help out on the 2016. Even though he loves cars, I don't think he is a fan of the ej motor. I had to hear about how much easier engines were to work on when you could get in the engine bay with the motor to swap out spark plugs, etc. LOL.

Default Valentine V1 and Shift Knob

After work I decided to clean up my wire to the AccessPort and also install the Valentine V1 Radar I got for Christmas. The install was very simple. I did it under the rear view mirror and wired it into the harness on the back of the mirror.

Not a great picture since it is dark but this is what it looks like from the backseat.

I also used a Dremel to create a little area for the AccessPort wire to pass through from the OBD-II port up through the fuse area and out the side towards the driver side mirror.

If anyone is curious about the WC Lathewerks Stainless Steel ball in the picture, here is a comparison of it to the factory knob. It is a little shorter so it does shorten the throws, and it is about a pound in weight. I have really enjoyed it so far.

I'll post some more pictures of the AccessPort wire tomorrow.
