Default Looking for a working USDM EJ257 engine for sale near Toronto for my 2009 STI

Hello!

Im a new STI user just bought my car 2 months ago.

I need some help about my 09 STI. I had a problem with the engine. It seems a engine rebuild is requied (the engine run about 210k kms). I think the engine swap is cheaper than rebuild it. I found a complete engine with 40k kms, but the engine is imported from japan, so im not sure it will 100% fit to my car. May somebody can help me about it?
Do i need anything else or i can swap the engine without difficulty.

Thanks for any informations

Default Re: Need help! Engine swap to JDM EJ257 Fits to my 2009 STI?

Sure the engine will fit. That certainly doe not mean all the external parts will. A swap is not that easy unless you have done a bunch because the correct information is difficult to come by. But still it will likley be the least expensive path - especially if you are doing the work.

Again USDM -> JDM can be time consuming just trying to figure out what parts will work. We have an 03 WRX swap and I am driving another biught this way at the moment.

But, Kms? Your not in the US ans not swapping a USDM engine? Perhaps your will be more similar to JDM?

this is way off topic, but we used to drop JDM motors in USDM hondas all the time.. never had an issue. but i digress.

I'm also an old school Honda fan. Electronics and emissions things were common issues. For example, the "OBD2" JDM Honda engines didn't come with the CFK sensor (Crank Fluctuation Sensor) and there wasn't even a provision for it on the oil pump. You either had to perform a CFK bypass to trick the ECU or swap the oil pump, add the sensor and use a USDM harness. The JDM intake manifolds also didn't have a provision for the evap purge solenoid.

I'm sure the same applies to Subarus for things like the TGVs. At least for Hondas, it was easier to use the JDM long block and swap over all of the USDM accessories to avoid any OBD2 issues.

OP: You may be better off searching for threads on EJ207 swaps to see what that typically entails. It may give you a better idea of what you may run into with the JDM EJ257.

you can cheat and buy EJ20X transfer all the sensors, intake manifold, exhaust manifold and turbo off the 257 and use it to tune w/ cobb or opensource etc. only thing to keep in mind is that the EJ20X is 9:5:1 compression so you would need good fuel to keep it happy you can pick up those motors from JDM shops we have in Canada for around 1500 bucks I only buy from Osaka JDM
