Default 2nd Shredded PS Belt?

My PS belt shredded on me a few months ago (no prior symptoms). I replaced with the Gates Blue Racing version and went ahead and changed out the a/c belt and pulley at the same time.

Since then, it never really stopped squealing... there really isn't a spec anywhere I could find for how tight to make the belts. 1/2 inch deflection or 1/4 turn are all I could find.

So, the belt would squeal, and I would tighten a bit more each time. I got it to where it would only squeal a little bit on cold-starts or very tight (parking lot) turning. I did feel some stuttering in the PS system during these tight turns as well (as if air in system?).

Yesterday the new belt shredded...

Both the PS and alternator pulleys seem to be spinning freely and without issue. PS fluid reservoir right above the minimum cold line.

What are my next steps?

TIA

Check the condition of your crank pulley, make sure it's still in 1 piece and not 2, like this one
Crank Pulley Failure (pics)

Same exact thing happened to me as well, the outer piece of the crank pulley shredded into the timing cover, and destroyed the accessory belts.

+1 for checking the crank pulley. If its possible, it can happen. As for the ps studder, it could either be some air getting into the system through a bad seal or possibly the ps pump on its way out.

Just visually inspect the crank pulley? Or is there a proper way to actually test? Would a failing PS pump cause the belts to shred?

If the PS belt is already shredded/off, then simply take the AC belt off as well, and see if you can move the outer portion of the crank pulley relative to the inside by hand. If it spins or you can push it in/out by hand....... yea it's bad.
